It is advisable to see a doctor after any kind of physical trauma to the body, especially the head. This is indeed sad and tragic, but I had a bad feeling about this as soon as it was reported that she was critically injured after hitting her head. I read a story about a young man that walked away from a car crash seemingly unharmed only to suffer a stroke two weeks later. Always see a doctor and always demand an MRI and blood tests. It could save your life.
I feel terrible for her family. I had a sister that died from a brain aneurysm at the age of 24 and I can tell you that those hours of CAT scans and tests and the inevitable bad news makes for one of the worst experiences in life. They are probably bringing her home to NYC to be taken off life support there. Very sad indeed.

Crazy comments all over the web. Some people saying that they would only put her on a plane if there is no hope because you don't put someone with brain swelling in an air pressure changing situation, others saying that there is some genius neurosurgeon at Mt. Sinai in NYC and that's why they took the chance of transporting her. And speculation that the fall was actually caused by a stroke, and not that the fall caused a head injury. None of this sounds positive now. I keep thinking of Emma Thompson's comments after hearing about Chris Reeve's riding accident: "Black, black day."

I work in healthcare and it is a big risk to fly someone with a serious brain injury anywhere. But I don't know her condition.

I feel so sorry for her son who was there when she fell and when she was sent to the hospital. Hopefully that boy has a good support system right now.

This has really affected me and I'm not one who really followed her career closely, though I've seen most of the major things she's been in. Again, it touches on my fear of head injury. The fact that they won't be making a statement until Wednesday just sounds like the worst to me. Sounds like they're resolved. But I'm praying for her and her family, especially those kids, who are so young. They still need their mother. And I'm sorry, to talk about prayer one moment and violence the next, but Perez Hilton and the people at Time Out NY need to get their asses kicked. Majorly hard.

Yeah, how scary that she waited the time she did, with the condition perhaps only getting worse. It *is* interesting that the instructor apparently insisted on going with her back to the hotel..

Flying that soon after a serious head injury means one of three things: 1. It's not that bad, and she just wants to go home. 2. It's very, very bad and flying will have no effect because there's no hope anyway. 3. The people allowing this are idiots.
Let's all hope for 1.
However, saying they'll release a statement tomorrow is odd. If it's very serious, a day could make a huge difference in her condition, one way or the other. It's almost like the situation is over, and it will be acknowledged tomorrow.

Apparently, it was strict protocol for the instructor to have any head injury no matter how minor to seek medical attention. It sounds like from various reports that have been consistent, that she brushed it off and said she was really fine, and the instructor insisted on staying with her and finally getting her over to a doctor.

I just watched the local news, CFCF Montreal, and they reported that she was with her two sons and she tumbled down the hill but after she seemed fine. They also had a neurosurgeon on and she said that the fact that NR seemed fine and was walking around after is good and that if it is indeed swelling of the brain, that it can be treated and she could make a full recovery. Let's hope that's the cause.

I read that the hotel tried to insist she see a doctor and when she refused they had her sign a waiver to that affect.
A reporter from The Toronto Star was onsight when they were transporting her out of the hospital in Montreal and it sounded like she was pretty bundled up in an intensive care bed and had tubes coming out of her face so it doesn't sound like it's not that bad to me.
The fact that the family aren't releasing until tomorrow is a bad sign to me - if it was less seriousthan is being reported why not release a short statement today? It sounds like maybe they want to wait until she's back in NYC and then notify all the family etc before they comment publically.
