I did hate her, but then I realized she is basically just a female Har Mar Superstar... so I sorta like her now.

I think she owes a lot to Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilara, Terri Nunn of Berlin and especially Debbie Harry and Dale Bozio of Missing Persons for her look.

With Lady Gaga, I have never seen one picture of her that suggests she could be anything less than late twenties (being generous) or early thirties (more likely). She's 33. Leave her alone! (Sorry, that never gets old when it's given in the proper context.

If she's copying anyone's look, I would say it's Grace Jones. I don't really care, though. Everyone has taken bits and pieces of their style from someone else.

I think we've been so enmired for the past 10 years in bland populist singers (like the American Idol bunch and the boy bands), teen poplet singers who are pushed as singers but can't sing (Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, etc.) and singers who shouldn't be singing in the first place (Britney Spears, J-Lo, etc.) so that when a singer comes along with a persona, attitude, and talent, people just don't know what to think.
Lady Gaga seems harmless -- sort of like Boy George was in 1983 (regardless of how he later turned out.) She's said she gotten much of her inspiration from Glam Rock stars like David Bowie, with their drag queen overtones. She's said the "Gaga" came from the Queen song "Radio Gaga," though it's also an old fashioned slang denoting enthusiasm and infatuation -- "She went ga-ga for him on their first date."
The long straight hair with bangs = edgy has been done before of course, ever since the mod haircuts of the 1960s. It resurfaces from time to time.
I like her no matter how old she is. She's a breath of fresh air.

Definitely Dale Bozio. I mean everytime I see her face, I expect her to belt out, "Do you hear me, Do you care?" Bozio looked better IMHO though.

I like "Poker Face" but I was surprised she didn't release "Love Game" as the second single with its insanely catchy hook: Let's have some fun This beat is sick I wanna take a ride on your disco stick! That single has been released in Canada. At least the Vancouver top 40 station plays it quite a bit.

Just Dance LoveGame Beautiful, Dirty, Rich
I wonder if MTV still played music videos in real rotation and if the music industry in general was more like what it was when Britney & Xtina blew up, how would Gaga's career be like compared to now? Many people seem to have heard of her but a lot of people would not be able to associate her songs to Lady Gaga the artist. I've seen enough photos of her on gossip blogs but never knew what she sang or how genuinely popular a music artist she is (thanks for those youtube links Lisa Miller) I had no idea she is the singer of that Just Dance song.
