Remake of the 1971 film starring Dustin Hoffman and Susan George. Plot: L.A. screenwriter David Sumner relocates with his wife to her hometown in the deep South. I like the idea of Kate Bosworth as Amy. The first (well, only, really) time she won me over was as the femme fatale-ish cultist in Bee Season and flirted admirably with whatshisface in 21. So I think she'd play the tension between hubby and former high school sweetheart well enough.
Son of Stellan will be fine.
I like James Marsden a lot, but he is character is the one I have the biggest questions about.

You're right it was set in Cornwall, England.
I have yet to see the orignal (just added it to my queue) but from what I've heard, I'm uh... surprised that this is getting remake. Then again they remade Last House on the Left so I guess mining the 70s revenge flick is in.
I'd better finally crack open my issue of Screenwriting For Dummies since it seems that Hollywood is short on original ideas.

Didn't see the original, but was the Amy character a generic damsel in distress with two facial expressions? Because that's about all one can expect from Kate Bosworth. And James Marsden? He's okay, but he's no Dustin Hoffman.
Nah, even the Skarsgaard Pretty won't be enough to make me want to see this.

They're heavily marketing Last House on cable and hello? Not enough bloodshed first go round? Gotta pack in more revenge killing? Criminy. Do they think people under 45 do not watch older movies? I think there's this idea that everything has to be remade for "today's audience." Uh, yeah, I'm the same audience that sat through the original. It's called netflix or amazon. I'm so over it. |

This has been in the works at least 10 years. At one point Edward Norton (who would be rather obvious, perhaps too obvious casting, for any Dustin Hoffman character) was talking about it, and how it was going to be less of a remake and more of a new adaptation of the novel. It would not have, for instance, the rape fantasy element, to That Scene.
