Is Stellan's first language English? I'd like to believe that he wasn't really thinking "That's my boy! Way to rape that girl!"

The newest trailer makes it seem like this is based on a true story. I've never seen the original, and know nothing about it except it's with Dustin Hoffman and it's very very violent. Is it true that it's true?

It's not based on any real events. Wiki says the original was based on a novel called The Siege of Trencher's Farm by Gordon Williams, but I don't know to what degree the original adaptation was faithful to the book.

Am I being petty or prudish, or is anyone else weirded out that they seem to be using the rape scene as a marketing tool? Yes, it's a big plot point, but the quotes they're pulling from interviews with Alexander Skarsgaard and Kate Bosworth are all about "that scene" like it's a reason for people to come and see the film.

I haven't seen the original, but I thought this looked like something in the "Strangers" vein. Guess I was way off.

It's part Strangers, part Deliverance, part Cabin Fever...I don't think the rape is used as marketing so much as those who've seen the original dwell on it because it's so horrific.

Alexander Skarsgaard is also kind of the It Guy at the moment, so it makes sense that they'd be emphasizing his role in the ads. The ads I've seen have only shown a quick cut of That Scene, and it's not clear (to anyone who doesn't know the plot) what's about to happen.

All the TV ads I'm seeing are highlighting Kate Bosworth and James Marsden, although without naming anyone.
