I've seen this a couple of times recently cruising around online and had never heard about it before. It's about the caver John Jones who in 2009 was spelunking in the Nutty Putty cave system with his brother. He went in an uncharted portion of the cave and sucked in his chest to investigate a 10" fissure and when his chest expanded he got stuck and then kept slipping down and got wedged into an 8 1/2" portion of it. What even the fuck. He ended up upside down. He was located and they tried to rescue him for 27hrs but there were too many turns in the area he went to investigate. He ended up having a heart attack and died without them being able to remove his body. They sealed off the cave and it's his tomb. I went to look at images of the cave system and the route he took, it's my worst fucking nightmare. Spelunkers are a different breed.

Spelunkers are a different breed. I got claustrophobic just reading that description. Cavers are bonkers. Even more bonkers are the cave divers, who do the same thing, but under water as well as under several million tons of rock.

It's like they just need to up the odds of dying in a bizarre fashion. There isn't enough money in the world to persuade me to do either but those lunatics do it for free.

Italian hospital employee accused of skipping work for 15 years Livin' the dream. It's a Reverse Milton! I read the article, and his first manager retired. But didn't his subsequent managers have to sign off on his hours? Did nobody notice there was an extra name in their direct reports? I work for a very large company, and every once in a while you hear an urban legend about somebody working two jobs (as in, two M-F 9-5 jobs) where they only show up part time for both of them, but I've never been able to verify it. But never just not showing up at all.

There was an IT guy at a job I had, and there were always rumors swirling that he had multiple other freelance jobs. He worked remotely - pre-Covid - and honestly, never seemed to get anything done, so I could believe it.
