The discussions of Supernatural and Kelly Ripa/Kate Gosslin brings up an interesting point about the general mindset over on TWoP.
Just in the Supernatural threads (and I'm assuming this happens a lot in other popular shows, I'm just most familiar with this one) there will be so much butthurtery amongst the posters when the characters say or do something that they decide will cause pain or emotional turmoil to another character. Sometimes it does of course. That's part of the show. But they are very very concerned about these CHARACTERS getting their feelings hurt that they will jump on every little line or glance that they perceive as a slight... against a fictional character. They worry and stress over how something must have made that character FEEL.
Nevermind that these characters are only going to "feel" what the writers tell them to feel and/or what the actors convey. And this is a show where they might be facing down the Anti-Christ and then in the next instant be sitting on a whoopie cushion. (Man, I love this show, crazy fandom and all!) So what was causing a character pain or angst one episode may be forgotten and brushed under the carpet the next... but the posters will not let these "slights" go. They will carry them for seasons! OY!
Then on the flip side, there are REAL people- Kelly Ripa, Kate Gosslin, Rachel Ray, the multitude of Real Housewives who get torn to shreads for everything from their hair to their clothes and every word out of their mouth is overanalizyed, nitpicked and misinterperated to death. They get called names, have their skills as mothers questioned to the point of almost having CPS called on them, and their private lives flayed. But are any of the posters worried about hurting these REAL people's feelings? Nope, they have no feelings, they're the Debil! Debil Debil Womens who deserve to be mocked!
(But fictional demon hunters, vampires, cops, etc. Don't be mean to them! It hurts their feelings!)
Not saying these two sets of posters are the same folks. But the balance of what is reality is so skewed over there.
