Once Ugly Betty lost its own forum, the sole thread is now just a Betty/Daniel uberfest. I have no opinion on that specific pairing, but the fans are extremely annoying.

As the World Turns gets canceled, and the Behind the Scenes soap opera thread is still closed. I liked having a place to read about the general goings on of all the soaps (and wrestling) without trying to go through the threads of each of them.

They closed the thread for As the World Turns? Or the show got canceled?

I like to read the Dexter ep. threads, because sometimes it's fun to see if other people like your show and see what you see. Now there is this one poster who hates everything Dexter and has to comment repeatedly. We get it, you think the show sucks. Why are you watching again?
I get being critical, because they do some dumb stuff sometimes (seriously, just anyone can walk into homicide and scope out the evidence board?!), but it's like she's taking personal offense that anyone else might enjoy it.

They closed the thread for As the World Turns? Or the show got canceled? ATWT's thread is still open, but the show has been canceled. I was just wishing the Behind Scenes thread was still open so people can discuss the cancellation there.

The Ashleigh injury drama in the SYTYCD thread is no end of amusement. Those people pretty much want her taken out back and shot. I hope Ashleigh and/or Ryan make it through tonight, it would be fun to watch people's heads explode. Like throwing water on chickens.

If you haven't read the thread for last night's elimination show, you should do it now (or at a time when you need some amusement.) It's insanity over there right now.
There are a few posters on that thread who elicit a visceral reaction from me when I see their name pop up next to a post, but they always seem to get the spoilers really early!

I have read it! People's heads are popping like firecrackers. One lone poster has pointed out that Mollee herself made it through after injuring her foot and not dancing during the auditions. She actually sat in a *chair* and waved her arms around. People also seem to miss the fact that the show is about "America's FAVORITE dancer". If "Ameriker" wanted Ashleigh to go home, she would have gone home.
I like Ashleigh and Ryan, but then that's a style of dancing I really like. Nigel is a skeevy perv (which I think accounts for the figurative pimping of Mollee), but that discussion probably belongs in the SYTYCD thread here.

I liked having a place to read about the general goings on of all the soaps (and wrestling) without trying to go through the threads of each of them. This one keeps on bugging me. Three months is not enough of a cooldown? IMO, the American Idol boards have a different feel from the rest of TWOP. The fandom and praise are so extravagant and the details are discussed at such length. It's something I don't think I've seen anywhere else (TWOP or forums in general).

That's just American Idol fandom at its most intense; the same sort of thing happens on other Idol sites outside of TWoP. You take a show where viewers can vote an unlimited amount of times to potentially launch someone into music superstardom and you end up with a lot of overly invested fans. I think it only gets worse as the show goes on, because there's more evidence that it's a very thin line between a contestant becoming a Carrie Underwood vs. a Celebrity Rehab regular (as a Carrie fan, it's pretty hilarious to read the AI posts from her season. Were the intelligentsia of TWoP ever wrong about her!). The conspiracy theories are more elaborate, because who does well in the business post-show matters much more to American Idol than it would to a show like Dancing with the Stars (though trust TWoP to have a Grassy Knoll thread for DwtS and theorize there was an elaborate effort to rig the show for Shawn Johnson last season).
Some Idol fans remain forever locked into the show's competitive mindset and want their favorite to have the best sales, the most critical praise, the most media attention, to be the Idol of Idols. So every nugget of information about someone is a sign they will be a smash or a flop, that he is the nicest guy ever or arrogant beyond words, that Contestant X is only claiming to be supportive of Contestant Y. Then there's the schadenfreude of seeing that contestant you didn't like tank in the real world, which leads to goading and trolling on message boards, and in response, the fans of that person coming back with these detailed posts about why said naysayer is wrong, and it goes back and forth until the thread devolves into the Seventh Circle of Hell. This past season of Idol had a culture war undercurrent attached that has probably turned fans more strident than usual, because they're getting worked up about something more than music and celebrity.
