I think the people in the Mad Men forum are all nutso. They think every episode has some hidden, deep spiritual, meaning.
The folks in the Merlin forum piss me off because they use their love of slash to hide behind their racism and the fact they HATE the character of Guenevere is played by a black woman. "It's not realistic" they cry. Dude, Merlin has a 12 foot dragon who speaks with John Hurt's voice and has a WTF expression all the time, you're not supposed to take it seriously.

Neurochick, I noticed a similar trend in the Heroes forums with some of the Peter/Nathan, Peter/Claire Incest-Yay crowd versus Simone, Peter's actual love interest. It's not always down to racism (the writers could legitimately be accused of not doing much with the character) but the girl could not catch a break.

I know! And I think a few of them may be legitimately stalking Alexander Skarsgard. I fear for him -- they talk about him like they know him and analyze him/his character in such detail that it seriously freaks me out.

Neurochick, I've seen this in other places online, but not on the TWoP Merlin forums, which I've been following since the show started in the UK. Are there any posts in particular where you found this? Because for a wonder I've just been thinking how calm and not stupid the Merlin thread is there. |

To be fair it's less there than say on IMDB, but I saw it enough there to bother me. This season the folks have cooled down and are embracing Gwen/Arthur more. However the Cassie hate at the Supernatural forums was borderline nauseating. I don't think it was 100% racism, I'd say about 80%. |

To be fair, there's a lot of hatin'-on-the-women over in the SPN threads. And everywhere on the internet, from what I've heard. Not everything is a race issue. Most of the women in the SPN universe are written pretty poorly and Cassie was no exception. The worst I've seen over in the thread from the one episode she was in is that she was a shitty actress. Hardly anything to do with race. They've casted a lot of women (and men!) that were shitty actors. There isn't a one that is universally loved. Everyone, everyone, hates/hated Ruby2.0, downright loathed her, and she's a white girl. I wouldn't read into it that much.

Speaking as a black female, I don't think all the Cassie hate in the Supernatural forums is racism. The fangirls quickly develop a burning hatred for any girl the writers hook the boys up with. Plus, the actress who played Cassie stunk up the otherwise perfectly good show The 4400 with her dead-eyed, wooden acting.
I mean, she was bad, bad, BAD on The 4400! I believe her Supernatural eppy aired a few months before she started The 4400, but I only discovered Supernatural in its third season and played catch-up.. so when I saw her guest on Supernatural, the hate transferred from The 4400 forum over to the Supernatural forums, that's all. I fully admit that I am completely biased against her; I can't really judge her performance as Cassie on its own merits (or lack thereof) because of the residual bad feeling left over from enduring her monotone line readings on The 4400.
And I really hoped she would be good; when I first saw her on The 4400, I said, 'It's President Palmer's daughter!" But she just killed that hope week after week after week. Killed it dead.

I forgot to mention that I always love Potes' ANTM recaps. They continue to be funny, descriptive, and snarky without being mean-spirited or annoying.
