Tiger doesn't need a pass from anyone. He was a jerk before and that didn't stop him from having legions of fans. All he has to do is win. When Tiger wins (or as we saw, merely contends), golf wins.

But isn't that how it is with everyone? We like certain athletes because of their personality sometimes. Yes, he's a great player (and may be again), but when he's swearing and slamming his club around on the course (and he's the only one doing it) - I can't stand to watch the guy. If anything, that loud muttering to himself and banging his club around has actually gotten worse. And then there was the spit. I actually think everyone is going out of their way to give him a pass on that shit because they're happy to see him back (and the ratings/attention he brings). I can't imagine how it would have been received if we say Rory McIlroy stomping around like a child. That 21 year old kid behaved a million times better than the grown up, seasoned millionaire. As far as athletes go, I could give a rat's ass about their personality. The thing is that Tiger if he's an ass or not is great for golf. When he's not there, people don't watch, pure and simple. It's like this, I NEVER watched golf in my life until that Masters when he first won.

I found myself cheering for his azz.
That says a lot.

I can't believe athletically how far he has fallen. He's still ranked #3 in the world. He's not nearly as dominant as he used to be but his golfing career is still very solid. There's no particular reason he couldn't regain the #1 ranking at some time. His endorsements are another matter. In a few years, if his golf game is still decent, he could do a comeback/redemption angle in some ads. If he, say, switches to a different golf club and regains the #1, golfers will be drawn to that brand. The golfers I know don't give a crap about his personal life. They just want to golf like him. John Daley's life was/is a complete mess but he can do one thing well: rip the cover off a golf ball. He still makes money and has endorsements because golfers want to drive like him. Tiger's not out of this yet. Tiger falls out of top 10 world rankings.

Doesn't mean a thing.
He could have lost his ranking, because he did not participate in the major tournaments to keep him in the Top 10. Don't forget he placed well in the Masters. If he keeps it up, he'll be back.
Sorry, he's not that bad of a player to fall off like that.

Apparently there is no announcement, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was out for the year. Retire, no way. He's a young, young man still. And he's way too competitive to do sit around with cocktail waitresses full time.

He should take a few years off and come back. He's good for golf but he needs to get his mojo back.

I don't miss him - AT ALL. I thought I would. But seeing how well behaved everyone else is (EVERYONE) compared to Tiger? Stay away, spoiled brat. No one else slams down their clubs, shouts, curses, spits, pouts, grudgingly acknowledges fans. He's really a nightmare, and did not come back from that self-reflection any better than before he left.

I watch enough sports to see that happens a lot, so Tiger isn't the only one. I think Athletes take the game seriously, so they will act out in sometimes inappropriate ways.
Moving on . . .
I hear he fired his long time caddy of 13 years.
