Why am I not surprised that Elin earned a degree that will qualify her to do.... absolutely nothing.
Perfect for a bored housewife who never has any intention earning a paycheck.

Why am I not surprised that Elin earned a degree that will qualify her to do.... absolutely nothing. I don't know about that. My friend majored in Psychology and eventually became a doctor using that major. I know other people who used it to open their own business- dating business at that and are somewhat successful, it definitely pays their bills and let's them take nice vacations. I know someone else who then specialized in child psychology and eventually opened their own daycare. I don't know what Elin's plans are with a Psychology degree, but I am impressed that she graduated with that degree. Psychology isn't some willy nilly course, no matter what you do with it in life.

Not to mention that the ink on her diploma is probably still damp. Maybe she has plans to go to graduate school. Or perhaps do nothing or stumble into something else. My own useless, bored-housewife, Betty Draper Francis degree is the one paying my bills now, so far be it from me to critique people's life choices. And I personally object to study expressly for the purpose of doing something, especially something appropriate and suitable. Why should she stay home and do nothing? Considering all the things she could have done, I like her choice.
From working in higher ed, there are very few degrees that *aren't* tainted by snobbery and derision. English, Art History, regular History, Communications, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Anthropology, modern languages...the STEM programs also have their tiered elitism. It's really a no-win situation. Not everyone can be an accountant or a microbiologist.

I have a friend who has a psych degree who went on to be a teacher and a friend with a degree in engineering who decided to be a stay at home mom. Everyone has different ambitions. Plus she did just graduate...who knows what her next step will be.

And really- what's wrong with getting a degree/education for the sole purpose of furthering your own mind? She has the ability to do so, she doesn't need to earn a pay check- so good for her for actually going to school when she didn't "have to". I respect that- bored housewife, rich blonde, or just plain old able to do it person- good for her.

My friend as the same degree is Elin and works for the Department of Corrections helping female inmates transition back into society. Elin has an interest in foster children, perhaps she will become a child psychologist, she has mentioned that before.

I just think it's good she has a degree. Nothing wrong with a psych degree at all. I have one and it really does help me at work, as I deal with all sorts of people.

I think it's good that we're hearing about her because she's getting a degree and not because she's joined Real Housewives of Miami. If such exists, which I hope not.

I admire the hell out of her for making the effort to expand her mind and do the work of getting a degree, regardless of what she ends up doing with it.

I admire the hell out of her for making the effort to expand her mind and do the work of getting a degree, regardless of what she ends up doing with it. How many rich people do we shake our heads at for being dumb as stumps, even though, they have the means and opportunity to better themselves? The fact she pressed on and got her degree, instead of settling for the status quo is to be commended.
