I know this sounds so silly but every time I watch an adaptation of Anne Frank's story I somehow for a moment trick myself into believing that this version will have the happy ending. It never happens of course and I am always left feeling so so sad.

Barrie, I know! After watching that I did a bunch of research on Anne Frank. I've been thinking about that since the show. What is so amazing is her deep desire to be a writer and the yearning she had to be read by others. I even read that she heard on the radio that once the Germans were out of Amsterdam, they would be collecting evidence of how the Nazis treated the Jews, so she began editing her work accordingly. It's kind of chilling.

I wonder sometimes if it had just been Anne and her family, the four of them hiding in the attic that they may have survived somehow.

I really enjoyed this remake. But I had forgotten how much they all moved around downstairs. I mean, I'm not trying to minimize their situation because it was terrifically hard, but they had way more space and luxery than a lot of people who hid in barns or the woods and whatnot.
The other thing that bugged was ok, so there's no room for Dussel to share with Peter, but then, why didn't Dussel and Peter take the Anne room and Anne or Margot go into Peter's little room and the other with the parents as Margot had to do? It creeped me OUT to think about Anne touching her body and what not inches from Dussell.

I don't know. I've been to Anne Frank's house in Amsterdam and all I could think of was how claustrophobic it was. I couldn't imagine being stuck there for four years.

Anyone else catch Sherlock tonight? I really enjoyed the first episode. I wasn't sure how much I would like Benedict Cumberbatch (what a name!) as Sherlock, but he's very good, and Martin Freeman is awesome as always.

I've watched half to three quarters of all three episodes - not because it was boring or bad but because I fell asleep watching them in bed! So, I think we will watch them on dvd at some point. I was really enjoying them and I thought the casting was great.

I loved the Sherlock episodes. I really enjoyed the modern spin on it all. And now I can never spread anything with a knife without thinking of the show.

I watched the first episode last night and really enjoyed it. It was fun trying to figure out the identity of the "baddie" and I kept going back and forth over whether it was Moriarty or Mycroft. Especially loved their interpretation of Lestrade and the actor playing him. Can't wait for next week's episode.

I liked Sherlock a lot. Mr. tabby and I both laughed out loud at parts, which doesn't happen very often with tv shows. I missed some of last night's episode, but we recorded the repeat in the middle of the night, so I can catch the parts I didn't see. And I'm definitely going to watch the next two.
