I'm in and out of this show. Without Whitfield it isn't the same. I know I should grow up about that but I thought he was just perfect for this...It's dumb.
ETA: The show's not dumb, my reasoning is.

Andy Whitfield wasn't the most amazing actor but he definitely had a ton of presence in his portrayal of Spartacus. The new guy is about the same acting-wise but does not have his presence at all. He looks too young and too scrawny. All the random background gladiators look they could snap him like a twig.
My biggest fault with the show is the acting abilities from most of the "good guys", especially from the actors playing Crixus, Mira, and Naevia (and Sura from Season 1 was atrocious). I find watching the scenes with the bad guys more exciting in part because the "bad guy" actors are for the most part far superior.

Atreides, I agree with you about the new Spartacus. Acting level is about the same but the presence is lacking. I think it's just from his form - if/when he bulks up he'll be far more convincing. I think he has better chemistry with Mira, though.
From what little we've seen so far, I think the new Naevia is pretty decent in the acting department - much better than her predecessor. Crixus is ok too - he's so earnest in his scenes with Naevia and it transmits to the viewer (well, at least to me!).
Sura's "mid-Atlantic" accent was terrible. "Keill thim aull!"

I prefer the new Naevia, but now that more than half the season has aired, I unfortunately have to agree that Liam lacks presence. His speeches are nice, but IMO a big problem is that Spartacus has been given little to do. He's a leader pretty much all the time; I feel that he hasn't gotten character-building moments or dealt with internal conflict. There's been a few quieter scenes, like the one with Gannicus, but something is still missing.
I'm betting that next week will be the "Spartacus, you're the father!" moment. Ilithyia interacting with the rebels could be gold.

It was crazy. I can't believe they killed all four villains and two major rebels. I was sure that Glaber and Oenomaus would die, but Mira was a surprise, especially so early in the episode, and then Lucretia and Ilithyia and the baby... wow. Ashur's death was very satisfying.
Next season is going to be very different, with a rebel army and a completely new cast of Romans. Let's hope they pull it off.

I haven't watched it yet, but I have read the spoilers. Was this finale better than Kill Them All?
Some weeks ago I posted about the Crassus and Caesar casting, but I don't see it here anymore. Did it disappear?

I haven't watched it yet, but I have read the spoilers. Was this finale better than Kill Them All? I think Kill Them All is still better. While Wrath killed more major characters, KTA had more of an impact because it was when I realised just how brutal this show was prepared to be (killing the awesome Batiatus/John Hannah instead of keeping him around because that's what made sense from the point of view of the story). Of course Wrath was still great and had its share of shocks (after five minutes Mira is dead, Lucretia/Lucy Lawless is out of her mind and commits suicide with the baby so that we lose the other big name). But the buildup to Crixus choosing to side with Spartacus was excellent. It had a tension that I didn't find in Wrath because the stories/structures of the finales were different. Wrath clearly had a lot of arcs that it needed to finish. Not bad in any way but different, and personally I prefer KTA.

Thanks for your thoughts, KarenK. I really liked Mira and I'm sad that she was killed off. I don't think her character progression was quite over; I would've liked to see her come into her own as a warrior, without being in a relationship with Spartacus.
It'll be a different season three, that's for sure. Ilythia and Lucretia were great to watch together, but I don't want to see a Roman redux of that.

That was an awesome finale. It was pretty jaw dropping to see six major characters (and a baby!) be killed off in one episode. Talk about a clean slate on the villain side. Looking forward to seeing Caesar and Crassus as the baddies next season although they're really going to have to bring it as the show no longer has any notable "big names" in its cast.
