We saw The Invisible Man this weekend. First, Aldis Hodge needs to be in everything. Whew boy, that's a man. The movie was ok, but a predictible update on Sleeping with the Enemy, right down to the middle of the night escape from the soulless beach house. The whole movie is about gaslighting. The "invisible" fight scenes were good, but there was some absurdly bad CGI in this movie. Lots of pretty shots of San Francisco.

Just commenting for Aldis Hodge - I loved him on Leverage and am really happy that he's been successful after that. I'll still wait to see this on Netflix though.

In case I haven't mentioned it lately, I LOVED Leverage. I miss that show so much. I have a dog named Eliot. I tried Parker and Hardison on him but he didn't respond. When I said Eliot he dropped and exposed his belly for pets, so that became his name.

I couldn't get into Leverage, but Aldis Hodge was CRAZY good in a small arc on Friday Night Lights. He is very intensely sexy.
We just saw Portrait of a Lady on Fire and I really recommend it! Very moving and sad, EXTREMELY beautiful to look at (it is fitting that in a movie about painting so many frames look like paintings), and it did a really good job of showing how many ways a woman could be oppressed in 1800s France without getting silly or melodramatic. It definitely felt a little long (due to all the moody French staring), but that is my only complaint.

A friend and I saw Emma. last week and adored it. I'm rereading the book now and imagining the actors in all the scenes that weren't in the movie. It was just perfect, and I love how the proposal prompted a nosebleed! Also, just as the new Little Women made Amy a sympathetic character, this version of Emma inspires new respect for Mr. Woodhouse. Truly delightful.

It wasn't my pick and I hadn't paid attention to the previews, so I was expecting something a little more supernatural-ish, so I enjoyed that it was actually all human driven. Aldis Hodge was amazing, I can't imagine a better place to hide out than with a guy like that. I also really liked the actor who played the brother, he was very believable in the shifting tenor of that role. Last movie we saw before the theaters shut down was The Hunt, which was so much better than I expected. Similar to how ladybug feels about Aldis Hodge, I think Betty Gilpin should be in everything. I loved her in GLOW and she was just pitch perfect in this. How does she not have a bigger career??

Apparently, it's going to be available to stream online on Friday, as well as a few others that are still in theaters. Obviously people won't be going to the theater now, so it's a smart move. However, the rental fee for a 48 hour rental is going to be $20 so many people will probably just wait. I guess it's worth it/good value if you are hunkered down with a bunch of people who really, really want to see it. I'm on my own, so I guess it depends on how desperate I get!

Watching a movie in a theatre is something I took for granted. Never again.

I can't believe the last movie I saw before all the theaters shut down was Sonic the Hedgehog. It was actually surprisingly solid, but still.
