I saw The Eternals on Disney. I tell you, all Marvel movies look lame to me at first. Guardians? A tree and a raccoon? What drugs are these guys on? I see it, I love it. I hated trailers for Iron Man, Capt Marvel, Thor/Ragnarok, Etc, Loved. Loved. Loved…them all. So I’m thinking there are way too many superheroes in The Eternals (10, I think). Too much backstory, too many names, too many relationships. But I loved it! So there you go. Tonight it’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. I wanted to like Eternals, because it’s the new phase of the franchise which I love, but just didn’t feel like a Marvel movie to me. Rob from GOT was the high point, I thought he was a principled character and liked him pre and post reveal, and Cho Chang from Harry Potter was quite lovely, and I did like that they showed the heroine as kind, sweet, and emotionally intelligent as opposed to perma-snarky (Capt Marvel) and or tough shelled (Black Widow) was a refreshing change. I think the fact I am blanking on the names of both the leads as I write this is some reflection of the movie though. I also found Kumail Nanjiani amateurish to the extent that it would take me out of the usual movie suspension of disbelief, and his nasal voice bugs. I wanted to root for him as he hails from my city and was classmates with my husband some decades ago, but I think he should stick to scriptwriting. I was also annoyed that the Bollywood dance (which apparently he had a hand in choreographing) was so bad and played into the trope of silly and cringey school play Bollywood moves that Hollywood - and reality dance shows - constantly portray this style as, where the reality is that even in an average movie they are fairly mind blowing intricately choreographed artistic productions that require a lot of talent (anyone interested should YouTube Pinga, or Dhol Baje, or Ghagra and then see the Indian dance scene in Eternals to see what I mean about it being the equivalent of an Apu from The Simpsons thing). I liked the deaf girl a lot, but her semi-boyfriend seemed brattish and his super-power was fairly disturbing. Generally it felt like too many big names together and I saw the actors (eg Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek) rather than the Marvel verse. Yet in the Avengers which has even more big names I did feel quite sucked into the verse. It also seemed to lack the witty script which is my fave thing about Marvel. I hope the next ones in the new phase are better, because I’d miss that “ooh new Marvel movie out in the cinema” reliable excitement that was annually for a decade.

I saw the most recent Scream movie, which was a good, fairly routine installment for the franchise, but also strangely nostalgic for me.
I remember watching the very first one on VHS in my first year of college, I remember this was the movie where Courteney Cox and David Arquette got together and in the intervening years, they had a child and divorced, so there was just this swirling feeling of reminiscence the whole time, both about the characters and about the passage of time in my own life. Also, Neve Campbell looks almost exactly the same despite the 20+ years in between.
SPOILER:
I may be imagining it, but I felt like Courteney Cox was on my level with the nostaglia, her reaction to Dewey's death and really every interaction she had with him had this tinge of affectionate sadness.

My teenage daughter and I went to see The Lost City with Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock. It's rated PG-13, but just be aware that there is about a minute of screen time with Channing's (or his body double's) butt close up. I'm not complaining, it was beautiful. Then Sandy's character gets to take a long look at his character's junk. One of those "I wish I wasn't watching this with my parent/child" awkward moments, LOL.
The movie is a perfectly fine rom-com. I loved all the call backs to Romancing the Stone, with Channing as the 'damsel in distress' a few times. Sandra Bullock has been very lucky to have some extremely handsome leading men, but I have to say she didn't have much chemistry with CT. I liked both of their characters separately, but they didn't work as a couple for me. Daniel Radcliff is an excellent villain and the Brad Pitt extended cameo was hilarious.

I watched Moonshot on HBO, I had no idea what this movie was going into it. It has Cole Sprout and Lana Condor, it’s a romance/coming of age film. It’s super cute and I loved the music that was selected for the movie. Lana Condor who most of us know as the female lead in the movie series “To All the Boys,” she’s equally as adorable in this movie. Not gonna lie, I love Lana in rom-coms and I really enjoyed this movie.

One of those "I wish I wasn't watching this with my parent/child" awkward moments, LOL. I’ll make you feel better! 1984: Used my High School graduation as an excuse to get my relatives to gift me money to buy my first VCR, a top loading GE. First video we rented? Caligula! My best friend from school came over and we sat down with my dad to take in the Bob Guccione/Tinto Brads epic. During the Imperial Brothel scene, it got JUST a little awkward, until during a particularly graphic shot of Pet of the Year 1975, Jane Hargrave, plying her skills, Dad says, “You think that thing is attached to anyone?” ETA: I still have that VCR, and at last attempt, it still works!

Ouch! My brother took my sister and I to see The Killing of Sister George at a drive in movie. We were in a high School, I was a Sophomore? This was before Midnight Cowboy, and the first X rated movie with the new rating system. It was about an older gay woman and her very very young girl friend. It was the first lesbian love/sex scenes and …. you can image the rest. And I’m 15…. To make it worse! My mom and dad had taken my grandad to the same drive in movie! The guy was 84, and watching The Killing of Sister George! I could see their car, but never looked over at it. We never talked of it again.

I saw this last week and liked it, but I was really distracted by Sandra's face, specifically the nose to mouth area. Did she have work done? Her nose has this weird Michael Jackson tip and her lips look oddly flat and wide. I loved Beth, and Brad Pitt. If you're going to see the movie, there is a mid credit scene, maybe two, but I can't remember. There is a scene after the beach scene!
