Newtothis, that is one of the main behaviours that really makes me mad. I went to see Avatar in the Imax which is usually okay for good movie manners but this fully grown woman put her feet on the back of my seat which I could feel every movement. I had to get her friends attention to ask her to put them down. All I got was a stroppy apology. Same thing happened with the last Harry Potter film, except it was a group of kids that had already seen the film and wouldn't stop talking and laughing (not at the film) and one kid put his feet on the back of my seat even after I'd told him politely not to. Ruined the film for me because I had to report them to the usher as the person responsible for them did nothing to keep them in line. I understand Harry Potter appeals to kids but at least teach them to respect other people viewing. That's why I hardly ever go to the cinema any more, which is a shame because I used to love the atmosphere etc

If I do go to the movies I tend to go to matinees just to avoid a large number of people. I like to sit as far away as possible from them. I also pray the sound is loud enough to drown put any distracting noises, especially open-mouth popcorn munchers.

You'd love our theaters. They're loud enough to drown out anything, including the voice of God, I suspect.

And when I went to see the original "The Fast and The Furious" I thought I had permanent brain damage.

The AMC in Boston is like that too. I have tinnitus and am thus extra-sensitive to loud noises, so I have to wear earplugs whenever I go there.

I had to start wearing earplugs in movies a long time ago. Plus, they have the extra added bonus feature of blocking out annoying noises, like popcorn munching and whispering.

I am shy and avoid confrontation at all costs, BUT movie-going is sacred space to me (which I know will bring me pain to no end), so I will give major stink-eye if someone is checking their messages. I may actually put this on a flier and start handing them out whenever someone does that:

Saw True Grit last week in a nearly empty theatre (it was early afternoon.) Despite the huge selection of seats, a young couple chose to sit exactly one seat removed from me, and the woman promptly fell asleep, deep-breathing and light snoring her way through the whole movie. Her companion woke her up repeatedly but she was asleep again minutes later.
I would've moved away from them, but then I would've been closer to Mr. Wet Cough, who was horking and sputtering the whole time. Fucking gross.
Not my best day at the movies. *grumble*

The last time Mr and I went to the movies on our date night, the elderly lady next to me kept farting. I tried to cover my face with my scarf but it didn't filter the stench.
ETA: I decided to change "old" to "elderly," in the hopes I sound less like a bitch.

For what he put you though you should be allowed free reign.
