What surprised me most is that Emanuelle Riva won best actress.

Yep, and I'm already reading reports of a possible upset. There might be one but I don't think it will be Riva winning. For some reasons I don't think that JLaw's got this one in the bag, I'm willing to bet on Chastain right now.

Oscar tribute poster inspired by every Best Picture winner. Check out the closeups of each Oscar to see the mix of striking, creepy and just plain WTF.

Absent the occasional award for a performance deemed amazing (Mo'nique), or situations where it has to go to someone by process of elimination (Jennifer Hudson, Helen Hunt, because apparently they couldn't give it to a British person), Hollywood seems to want to make their actresses earn it. Especially the young female leads. This is also why I don't see it going to Jennifer Lawrence. And it's obviously not going to Quevanzhane Wallis (a child), or Naomi Watts, who no one remembers was even nominated, so Riva by elimination.

I hope he's right-- well at least about JLaw and Argo. I didn't realize how big of a fangirl I was, but I will honestly be upset if Katniss Jennifer doesn't win. I've had a soft spot for Big Ben since his GWH and Kevin Smith days.

Ed Schultz had David Edelstein of the NYT on last night to discuss Oscar picks. Edelstein said the BP love for Lincoln had waned and he thought Argo would take the big prize over ZDT. He said DDL was a lock for Best Actor, JLaw would win Best Actress over Jessica Chastain because of the controversy over ZDT, and Spielberg would take Best Director because Bill Clinton had been campaigning for him. Also, he joked that he couldn't even remember who else was nominated for Best Supporting Actress besides Hathaway, and while Tommy Lee Jones should win for Best Supporting Actor, DeNiro would take the prize because he'd been out there campaigning for it, while Jones "is thought of as kind of a sourpuss" who doesn't believe in all that. Ed expressed amazement at this, to which David replied, "Hey, Ed--you should know politics when you see it. It's all politics."
Edited to correct the gender of Jones' and DeNiro's category--

I'd love to see his version of IDAD in full costume.
