I would feel the same way you do regarding Cate, but she won an Oscar nine years ago.
In fact, all the actresses who are rumored to be nominated have all won. This would be an interesting category to say the least if Amy Adams is nominated.

I think Sandra Bullock is the only one who even remotely poses a threat to win over Cate. Cate's won the vast majority of the precursor prizes already. She's this year's Charlize Theron or Natalie Portman.

But if Amy gets in versus 4 previous winners, there will finally be some drama in Best Actress. Although I also agree Cate Blanchett deserves it for Blue Jasmine. Phenomenal work.

I'm rooting for Cate, I'm so happy she got a comeback like Blue Jasmine after her break. Amy could be a nominee, but I hope she doesn't win just because she's managed to build up her nomination count by getting filler nominations: unlike Cate after Elizabeth I don't think Amy has ever been robbed, she hasn't been fighting for the win or the best in show (nomination #1 she was the talented and essentially unknown ingenue, nominations #2-4 there were other nominees from the same film getting more attention).
We had an all-winner lineup in Supporting Actor last year, I hope Actress is all 40+ winners this year.

I haven't seen Blue Jasmine and I hate Woody Allen and his films, usually.
I feel conflicted because Sandra Bullock was phenomenal in Gravity, but she won recently for The Blind Side, which was barely a good movie and really not an Oscarworthy performance at all. She was a billion times better in Gravity.

Surprised at what got left out - nothing for Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips or Saving Mr Banks), nothing for Redford (All is Lost), nothing for "The Butler".

I'm surprised about Redford too, they should've left off DiCaprio.

Pleasantly surprised to see Barkhad Abdi and Steve Coogan getting some recognition; unpleasantly surprised to see Blackfish and Fruitvale Station shut out.
