I'm surprised about Blackfish too.

I'm really disappointed at the lack of love for Before Midnight. It was at the top of most critics' best-of-2013 lists and the only nod it received was Best Adapted Screenplay.

Before Midnight and Julie Delpy did deserve more, but maybe they're waiting until the final episode?
Surprised about Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson (Hanks more for Captain Phillips) but they really didn't like Saving Mr. Banks. Very happy for Abdi, DiCaprio and Hawkins.
We have some good races there.

Kinda shocked about Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips and also Jonah Hill. Although he was very good. No love for Inside Llewyn Davis either. Bummer.
ETA: I guess ILD did get a few noms.

I'm disappointed there aren't more nominations for Her, especially Spike Jonze for director. If he hadn't enabled the Academy to give him a screenplay nomination by writing his own screenplay, he would have gotten a director nomination. I hate it when the Academy tosses good directors into the screenplay gutter so they can spread the wealth elsewhere. They do that to Quentin Tarantino too.

Now it's going to be two-time Academy Award nominee Jonah Hill? But I hate him and his face soooo much.
I'm surprised DiCaprio was nominated, but I can't be pissed because of all the times (multiple) he deserved it and was ignored before.

Leo has given some great performances, but I have to say the "just give him his Oscar already!" meme annoys me. There are plenty of overdue actors who don't even get the nominations - the fact that Gary Oldman only recently had his FIRST nomination still chaps.

I am surprised at the Jonah Hill nomination. I just don't see what the Academy sees I guess. This performance was better than Moneyball, but surely there were better performances out there. I would definitely if he gave the same performance in a non-Scorcese movie if he would have been nominated?

Even as a Leo fan I don't think he's been robbed so far. I think he should have been nominated a few more times, especially last year but every time he was nominated, there was always someone who was simply more spectacular. It'll be the same this year, the race is between McConaughey and Ejifor.
Ginger, while I agree that Spike Jones deserved a Best Director nom too, he's a triple nominee this year so I bet he had a pretty sweet Oscar morning ;-) He got in for Best Song and as a producer for Her's BP nom.
A bit sad about Brühl but I knew that despite all his recent noms, his spot was always the most vulnerable in Best Supporting. And Fassbender's campaign begins... NOW! God, I hope he's finally over his previous "snub"...

I hope they have the best song performances this year. I did not know that "Happy" was from a movie, so I really want to see that on the Oscar stage.
