I wouldn't count out Colin Firth, he has the advantage of being past middle age and never winning before. I think he has a better shot than Clooney at this point. Jeff Bridges has an even better shot, he's part of an acting dynasty, has been nominated four times but never won, and Crazy Heart is being hailed as the performance of his career.

I think Inglourious Basterds has a good chance to win Best Picture, especially now that Nine has tanked and Uncle Harvey won't have to divide his Oscar campaigning.

I'm predicting (and I always get these damn things wrong)
Picture-- Avatar Director-- K. Bigelow (yay) Actor-- J. Bridges Actress- M. Streep S. Actor-- That guy from Inglorious Bastards (sorry I can't remember his name) S. Actor-- Mo-Nique or Anna Kendrick (Up in The Air's one big award) Ad. Screenplay-- An Education (still my fave movie this year) or Up in The Air Or. Screenplay-- Inglorious Bastards Song-- something from Princess and the Frog. The Academy loves Disney songs Technical awards-- Avatar Animated-- Fantastic Mr. Fox (totally going out on a limb for the upset. I believe it made more best 10 lists than UP)

Dang. The prediction that Avatar may win is making me depressed. Is this my punishment for actively rooting for Titanic to win so many years ago?? I was only thirteen years old, I've learned my lesson!

I think M'onique should win for Precious. Her performance took my breathe away.

Having just seen Crazy Heart, I'm officially calling Jeff Bridges for Best Actor. I've seen most of the other likely nominated performances and his was by far the best.

I still think Mo'nique is going to win for supporting actress (sorry JLO!). That just seems set in stone.

Agreed. I think Best Actress and Supporting Actor are wide open at this point though.

I still think Mo'nique is going to win for supporting actress (sorry JLO!). That just seems set in stone. I've read that Anna Kendrick from Up in the Air (and New Moon, haha!) has become a serious contender for Supporting Actress. Apparently Mo'nique has been demanding appearance fees to promote her movie, which the studio is refusing. Kendrick's hit against her is that her co-star Vera Farmiga also stands a good chance of a nomination, which may split their votes. Agreed. I think Best Actress and Supporting Actor are wide open at this point though. I believe Christoph Waltz is the frontrunner for Supporting Actor for now. Best Actress seems to be coming down to Meryl Streep vs. Sandra Bullock. Helen Mirren just won a few years ago and Carey Mulligan and Gabourey Sidibe are too new. I hope Jeff Bridges (whom I've loved for many years now) beats George Clooney. I can't stand that smug asshole.
