Dear Incredibly Smart Greecies With Much Better Memories than Me:
This movie came out, I want to say, 2-3 years ago. Independent film. All I can remember from the trailer was that it involved a group of kids, and it seemed like one of them had drowned (or was drowned) and the consequences of that death upon the other kids. Does anyone have a clue what this film might be? I remember seeing the trailer and thinking, "That looks really intriguing!" And then ... I forgot completely about it since it never made its way to my town. Thanks for any help!

Weren't those the sphinxes? That he had to solve a riddle to pass? Yes, Sphinxes...but he didn't have to solve a riddle. It was like...only those who knew their true selves or were confident in themselves or something passed...God it's embarrassing I can't remember that since I've seen this movie about 24545786978 times. But remember he watched the knight on a horse go through first and he had false confidence or whatever and the Sphinxes fried him? Then Atreyu went through after that, got nervous halfway through, the Sphinxes started opening their eyes (to shoot their killer laser beams), he started hauling ass and just barely missed getting killed. Ok. Now I need to go pop in the DVD..... |

Yeah, the trailer's made it look like a junior high version of River's Edge with a bit of Bully thrown in. I've been meaning to catch it too as it's always on cable these days. |

I watched this movie a decade or so ago on TV but never found out the name.
It's set in the 50s or 60s and involves a boy in high school who has a crush on the most popular girl cheerleader girl at school but he doesn't have a chance because he's not cool enough and she has, I assume, a varsity football boyfriend. They do meet and have a talk (at a playground or baseball field or something) and talk about future plans, where she mentions she'll probably just stay in town and be a homemaker while he has the obvious college plans. They get together eventually and I think they have sex in a swimming pool. Then I think he goes to Mexico with his buddies and something bad happens and the main guy starts being an ass to his girlfriend.
I might even be mixing up two movies but I think they're one and the same. I never saw the ending so I'm curious!

I saw a preview a while ago for a Don Cheadle movie that looks good. It takes place in the 1970s, and he's an ex-convict turned DJ. I can't remember the title, but I want to see if it's out yet.
