There's also Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol, which I always forget how much I love. The music is so good; it's a toss-up between "I'm all alone in the world" and "The Lord's Bright Blessing (aka the Razzleberry Dressing song)" but I belt them both out no matter what. Plus the hags who steal all the stuff out of Scrooge's bedroom have a great song about being despicable. Man, just slap the word Christmas in the title and I'm on it like white on rice.

Maybe this belongs in the true confessions thread, but... I've never seen A Christmas Story. *ducks flying objects* I've decided that this is the year I finally see it, and judging from everybody's posts it doesn't look like I'll have trouble finding it on TV. I saw it for the first time last year and HATED it. Oh that was a terrible movie and I still can't figure out what all the hype is about. I waited 26 years to see it and should have held out longer. I also have no idea what this Heat Meisler character is, must not have been a popular one to air where I lived. I always liked the Yogi Bear Christmas Movie and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. My most hated Christmas movie would still have to be It's a Wonderful Life. What a depressing, boring, self righteous smug fest.

Dragonfly, the Heat Meiser character is from 1974's The Year Without a Santa Claus. ETA: You can catch it on ABC Family -they show it about a billion times every December.

I feel I've mentioned this before, but I have a secret love for The Christmas List. A TV hokey holiday movie with Mimi Rogers. She works in a department store and puts her list in a mailbox to Santa that's in the store. All the stuff she wanted starts coming true.
It's got all the cliches you could ever need, boring boyfriend that wont commit, sexy possible new man she keeps running into, (and of course he has a sad motherless son) irritating, pushy mother and the sassy black best friend!
It's totally Christmas ya ll!

I LOVE it. Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol is second only to Christmas Eve on Sesame Street and Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas in my book. Christmas Eve on Sesame Street has the best storylines--Bert and Ernie rock a whole Gift of the Magi thing, Cookie Monster ends up eating all of his writing implements while trying to write to Santa multiple times asking for a variety of cookies. Emmet Otter is a classic, the song were brilliant.

Isn't Mr. Magoo the one with the Razzleberry Dressing song...?
And Emmet Otter is one of my all-time favorites, too!

Yep, that's the one with the little tyke lisping: "and Razzleberry Dressing"
ETA: If you go on YouTube, there is a hilarious blooper video from Emmet Otter. To see Ma Otter say "Sweet Jesus" on the thousandth take is priceless.

I'm willing to bet that more movies (including dramas, spoofs, cartoons) have been based on A Christmas Carol than any other book.
My favorite, I guess, is "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." (And just like I'll always hate Mike Myers for desecrating the Cat in the Hat, I'll always despise Jim Carrey for doing the same to The Grinch!)

The definitive version of "A Christmas Carol" to me is 1983's Mickey's Christmas Carol....mostly because it was the first version I saw. ;D
And ditto on the Carrey Grinch hate, Bonsai.

I went back a few pages to see if anyone mentioned Scrooged, and sure enough, Ripley did. I just watched this On Demand, and it's one of my favorites. After I finished watching it, I did a little research, and saw that it was critically panned. How can that be?? SO funny, and Bill Murray was perfection, IMO. That speech at the end seems so entirely off the cuff, that I actually wondered if he did improvise a bit.
