Yeah, by the 16th book I was starting to wonder what either man saw in Stephanie. I was wondering by halfway through the first book. I love these books, and Stephanie too, but she's an incompetent shitfight.

Heh. Don't forget pineapple upside-down cake. And birthday cake which is somehow different from regular cake. Well, it doesn't have any calories, right? Re: Lula, yeah, that could translate very, very badly on film. I get the feeling the author has a lot of affection for Lula (in my "fanwanky" moments, I see her as a very tough woman who had a very rough start in life — not to mention a brutal rape that Evanovich kind of glosses over, I think to keep the books light — but is super smart, despite her quirks, and is an amazing friend to Stephanie, not to mention saving her ass repeatedly). I feel like she's kind of Stephanie's alter ego —a balsier version who doesn't give a rat's ass what anyone thinks about her. But yeah. I'm offended already, just imaging what a screenwriter might do with the character. bklynred, the books are fairly old. This particular one came out in 1994. They're fun, guilty pleasure books about a Jersey girl turned bounty hunter. I really loved the first few, but then they started to get really formulaic. I won't lie, though — I still like them. They're like the literary equivalent of comfort food. You know exactly what you're gonna get and it's probably not good for you, but it's enjoyable. Yeah, I have no idea what Ranger or Morelli see in her anymore (not to mention, she pretty much cheated on Morelli that one time). I do like the character development with Ranger, though — I started the series thinking Stephanie should run like hell from him; now I think he deserves far better. Soooo far off topic ...

I was always more of a Morelli fan. Which makes the last few books really hard to read. I just wanted him to dump her and find a nice Catholic girl who wouldn't act like marrying him was a fate worse than death.

Here's the casting list. Uhh... Debbie Reynolds as Grandma? Grandma's, like, 94. Hot. Mess. TC? I bought some butterscotch Tastykakes because of these stupid books. They're effing gross!

Well, Debbie Reynolds is almost eighty. That's not bad casting, really.
Actually, the casting is not bad, but Michelle Monaghan would have been a great Stephanie.

Cloris Leachman would have been perfect as Grandma Mazur. Debbie Reynolds? I dunno. Judging by the photo alone, the guy cast as Vinnie looks perfect. I agree re: Michelle Monaghan. ETA: Found some photos of the cast online.

Debbie Reynolds isn't really 'wacky' enough for Grandma Mazur. I like the casting of Connie and Vinnie, based on looks alone. They seem to be what I pictured.

Heh. Don't forget pineapple upside-down cake. I actually made pineapple upside-down cake specifically because of this book series. It was pretty good.

I've always pictured Grandma as super short, super thin and kind of a slow mover. haha. (Isn't that how she's described, anyway?) And I've always thought Connie was blond for some reason, but the height of the hair is spot on! The dude they cast as Morelli is... Eh in the candids. He's just not doing it for me. Neither is Ranger! He's the same size as Morelli. I thought he was supposed to be a big dude. Blech.
