Babycakes, that's a favorite of mine too.

After swearing I was going to see this movie opening weekend, I FINALLY got around to seeing it today, and I loved it. Yay for smart, original concept movies doing well! Hopefully more will be made.

So, there were parts of this story that I liked. However, I am getting sick of Nolan not being able to write a good female part to save his life. In all of his movies, the women are basically token cardboard characters. It pisses me off so much that I can't enjoy his movies.

I don't know, I enjoyed Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight. It might have had a lot to do with Maggie G., but I thought she was a pretty strong and kick ass character.

I heard Edith Piaf in a coffee shop yesterday and for a split second I freaked. Then I noted the cafe wasn't, you know, closing in on itself or anything, so I didn't switch to decaf.

I hated Insomnia, but wasn't Hilary Swank's character decent? Or was she also an exposition fairy who just happened to be the 2nd-billed main character?

I don't have a problem with Nolan's writing for women. Carrie Ann Moss was at her best in Memento. And replacing K. Holmes w/ Maggie Gyllenhaal was great casting. He may not always nail it, but who does?
Insomnia literally put me to sleep, but now I'm going to try to rewatch this and Following (which I recall liking but little else--oh it's in b&w).

I will say that while I would have loved a scene in which Ariadne called Cobb out in front of the rest of the team about the danger his issues posed to them on the Fischer case, the fact that she didn't get fridged or need rescuing and was sought out for her expertise was something I liked. Having been an architecture student, all I have to say is that she looked too well-rested, and would have had so much caffeine in her bloodstream that it would have been difficult to anesthetize her.

That's funny re: Ariadne--one of the most confident members of the team, and the most clued in. On a more shallow note, I read somewhere that she wore a bun during the big sequence to avoid continuity issues floating, etc.

I read that too. It also explains the large portion of the film's budget that went for Brylcreem for the guys.
