Didn't Jason Segel write the screenplay? Why didn't he star in the movie? I'd have preferred it.

It's doing about the same business as Forgetting Sarah Marshall which seemed like an easier sell to me than GHTTG. I would have been shocked to see it making the kind of money that The Hangover did.

Far too tall for one thing; Aldous looms over Aaron which visually works well for their dynamic. Also Segel is one of those people who looks older than he is. The character of Aaron supposedly grew up on Aldous's music; Segel looks like Aldous's old college buddy.

My husband and step-son LOVED this movie. I mean, laughing so hard their stomachs hurt kind of love. But it just wasn't that funny to me. I though Puff Daddy was awesome (and ditto that I don't like him in RL but he's great onscreen) and I thought the little fake videos and songs were kinda funny. But I didn't have like major belly laughs over anything. Maybe I just don't get "guy movies" anymore.

I had pretty much the exact same reaction as you - some funny parts but nothing laugh out loud hilarious. The fake videos and Puff Daddy were definitely the highlights for me. I could have done with a little (or a lot) less vomit though, I can never stand that, even though I know it's fake.

I saw this due to my love for Elizabeth Moss. Before I saw the movie, I actually thought it was about fraternities, and that Brand played some cool guy who was supposed to help Jonah Hill pledge. So in that sense I was pleasantly surprised. I like Aldus Snow and Instant Sorry, and loved Rose Byrne as his wife.
Otherwise... meh. It lacked a real story, and completely lacked the heart of Sarah Marshall. And I did not need to see Jonah Hill throw up six thousand times.
Also, not to be a wet blanket, but would it ever be funny if you reversed the genders in the dildo scene? Imagine a girl coming out of that saying "I think I've just been raped"? Is the idea that guys are always horny, so a woman can't sexually assault a man?
I know, I know, you can't over-think comedies, but it still bugged me.

I was expecting Forgetting Sarah Marshall + The Hangover, and was thinking I wouldn't enjoy it as I didn't find The Hangover funny. But I enjoyed it as a whole, some scenes aside, and was surprised that there were endearing moments.

There is a quote from a Cracked article that pretty much sums up how Hollywood treats this sort of thing:

I thought this movie was just OK. not terribly funny in any way shape or form. The whole scene when the Russel Brand character comes back to the guy's apartment could have been left out as far as I am concerned.

It's funny that most of the current posts re: this movie aren't so favorable compared to the initial ones. This isn't exactly my type of movie either but I kind of just want to watch Diddy (not Puff Daddy n-e-more u guise!) in it.
