I finally watched the American remake of Let the Right One In. It was hard to separate it in my brain from the Swedish one because there were some shots and particular scenes that were EXACTLY like the Swedish one. The casting was definitely good though. I just don't know if I would have liked it on its own if I hadn't already seen the original. It's definitely not a movie that's reliant on dialogue so, once again, I don't know why they were so desperate to remake it. I found it particularly bizarre that they based the re-make on the original movie but not on the book, which has a ton of differences from the films.

NoooooooooooO! I refuse to accept non-muppet Fraggles! I watched the original live-action show on bootleg HBO too when I was a kid. There was also a Saturday morning Fraggle Rock cartoon for a while; why not do that?

Okay, pardon my venom, but when it cones to remakes, that is the stupidest fucking thing I have EVER heard. Mary Harron's "Psycho" was PERFECT, and to remake it set in the present completely, COMPLETELY misses the whole fucking POINT of the book.

I have been seeing the previews for the "3 Stooges" movie everywhere...must they ruin the old shorts by bringing them into the 21st century?

Part of what makes the original works is the 80s spin on work culture, the schmoozing, the cell phones--everything. I read the book once a year for a while (I was young & impressionable) and the whole morning ritual scene was one of my favorites; it made the turn to over-the-top horror that much more unsettling. Just imagining that updated with Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry and Versace leaves me deflated. It's one thing not to have new ideas; must they strip every old idea out there?

Seriously? A remake of Valley Girl is being planned- as a Glee style musical. I have no words.
ETA- Gag me with a spoon! I found the words.

The fuss over the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, oops sorry Ninja Turtles makes me laugh. I can't say I'm a fan so making them aliens or changing the name doesn't seem like a big deal. But I would also not be likely to see it no matter what it was called. But why piss off the fanboys with such minor changes when they are your audience? Its being produced by Michael Bay so it is guaranteed to suck no matter what. You need all the goodwill you can to get people in the theaters. And now they are remaking Carrie with Chloe Moretz . Kimberly Pierce is directing which does make it slightly intriguing. But there was already a crappy sequel, a failed tv-movie remake and 2 bad Broadway plays! I think it is safe to say that nobody is exactly begging for a new Carrie. Also I think Chloe Moretz is a good actress but it bugs that this is a part that actually does not call for a conventionally attractive starlet and yet they still cast a conventionally attractive starlet. Its been awhile but I think I recall the book saying that Carrie is not actually ugly, just a weirdo. But still this would have been a good part for an oddball and they go with the Teen Vogue cover model.

Actually, Carrie in the book was overweight and had a lot of pimples, so yeah - I'm not sure about this casting. I love Chloe Moretz and think she's extremely talented, but she's too pretty and too young to play Carrie.
