All of your comments on Recovery made me check it out, and No Love is off the hook. Won't Back Down doesn't work for me at all though -- Eminem's and Pink's parts are too musically and lyrically different for that. I wasn't surprised to learn that Pink's part was recorded later because it does feel like an afterthought.

ronette, my online and Recovery lyrics "research" indicates that Eminem is raising Kim's other daughter and her niece along with Hailie, so it seems the legal adoption has to have gone through for him to be able to do that, no? In Going Through Changes he says

"Hailie, this one is for you, Whitney and Alaina too."

In Not Afraid when he says

"I solemnly swear to always treat this roof like my daughters and raise it."

the "daughters" is clearly plural when you listen to the song.

I think, perhaps, he's graduated from being a misogynist (all women are bad because they're female) to having the good old Madonna/whore complex (only some women are bad). At other times, it almost seems he throws around words like "whore" and "fag" as generic insults or because that's what he heard people around him say without quite meaning everything they mean. At the current pace he should grow out of this in a decade and finally realize that saying these things, even if you don't really mean them, especially when you have millions of young impressionable fans listening is just as bad.

He adopted Kim's sister's daughter - Lainie - when he was still married to Kim. It's not like Kim had 2 daughters and he only picked one to adopt.

He didn't adopt Kim's other daughter, Whitney, because she has a dad. A deadbeat. Whitney lives with deadbeat dad and Kim - in the house Em bought. However, Em still supports Whitney, even though she's not his, because she is Hailie's half sister. Kim also has a 1 year old boy, by deadbeat dad, that Em supports for the same reason.

Don't feel sorry for Kim. She'll keep popping out the babies knowing that Em will step up for them financially because they are Hailie's half siblings. He doesn't have to but he does it for Hailie.

Say what you will about his music, he's a good father and takes care of those he cares about and are related to Hailie because he can and wants to.

I remember reading about an aunt and uncle whose kids he was supporting too, but they had some sort of falling out. I've always thought it would be really awkward to come from a poor family and suddenly have lots and lots of money and Eminem's family made it really, really, REALLY awkward for him.

Not sure, but I think the original poster meant she knew about the adoption of the niece, but hadn't heard about the adoption of Kim's daughter until now. And the "Great move!" was sincere, not sarcastic. OP please correct me if I got it wrong!
