roisin, I agree about Dawkins as well. I even thought that Bill Maher's 'Religulous' would have been more effective if he would had been a bit more respectful to those who believe in God. I am sorry if I went a bit overboard on Hitchens.

Don't be sorry! I think all these topics are exactly why Hitchens is so fascinating.
I will also say that Hitchens was one of my occasional Celebrity Sightings around 1998-2000, when I worked in a DC bookstore. Having just discovered the Missionary Position and his piece about the Elgin Marbles, I was kind of impressed with myself, but he was always drunk in the middle of the day </adjusts pearls> and my jaded boss described him as a professional Englishman.
