Should we start after the holidays? Works for me. Also, Amazon has the box set on sale for cybermonday for an insanely low price.

And I may or may not have the first two on PDF if anyone needs them. *cough*

Has anyone read The Girl Who Was on Fire? It's a series of essays by other young adult authors, reflecting on various aspects of the books.
I bought it on a whim, but I was really impressed after reading some of the essays. The authors pointed out details in the books that I've never considered before, and how Suzanne Collins clearly put a lot of thought into creating this world.
There's comparisons made between the rebellion and the War on Terror, a discussion on how PTSD created the traits we've seen in past victors, etc.

No problem! There's an especially interesting essay comparing the politics of Panem to the War on Terror, which I really enjoyed.

It is killing me, trying not to highlight the whited out spoilers, or go back to the first pages of this thread. I read the first book in a few hours, and stayed up last night to 5:00am reading Catching Fire. I'm going to the library tomorrow to pick up Mockingjay. It is killing me not knowing what happened in District 12 or if Peeta is okay. I feel like I should bring some tissues with me, because I'm going to be crying during some point on my hour long commute to work. I'm not holding my breath for a happy ending.

I got a cheap boxset and read the books over the course of a week. I enjoyed them but there's a lot of repetition and can't imagine how they're planning to make four movies out of them.
I think they could tell the story in two very good movies but unfortunately that's not how Hollywood works.

I was thinking the same thing. This series could be two really good movies, or one big epic movie.

I agree - it kinda felt like the story sputtered out a bit in the third book, so they could easily make a movie from the first book, then combine the second and third into another movie. But yeah - not how Hollywood works. If the first two movies make enough money, they'll find a way to stretch the third book into two movies. In other news, I'm cracking up over this Hunger Games Cookbook. The recipes include: Rue's Roasted Parsnips Gale's Bone-Pickin' Big Game Soup Lovelorn Peeta Pita Wildflower Pockets President Snow’s Sautéed Dove Breasts in Bacon Drippings Grilled Tree Rat with Peanut Butter Dipping Sauce Plutarch Heavensbee’s Roasted Suckling Pig Surprise Tigris’s Fig Cookies So, what's the surprise in the suckling pig recipe? Someone shoots an arrow at it while you're in the middle of eating it?
