Weird. I figured Slaughterhouse-Five is part of the literary canon by now.

As a Missouri resident, this embarrasses me.
I have to wonder if all of the VC Andrews books are on their library shelves, as was the case when I was in high school. Because those books are so much better.

But... but... the whole point of TKAM is racism. That's the poooiiiiinnnnnttt!!!! I.... It.... They.... /slams head on desk
I'm sorry, but that book is my all-time favorite book, and should be read by everyone. The lesson that "you never really know a person until you walk a mile in their shoes" is something the world could really, really, really, really, really, really remember.

I'm sorry, they banned "To Kill a Mockingbird"? What the fuck? Ugh.
That book is my security blanket.

Well that's...just great. I'm disappointed to see an educational book about pregnancy on that list, too. Why are book banners so. dang. stupid. ?

Argh. I really don't know what to say. I do suspect that if the teacher had told the parents in advance with justification about this version, then there probably wouldn't be a problem, but maybe not. I also think discomfort is an incredibly important part of education; I read in the comments that another teacher at the school assigned The Autobiography of Malcolm X, which led to a spate of pearl clutching.
It makes me incredibly sad that a clinical description of genitals and their correctly attributed functions is considered scandalous.
