Someone's doing a Melissa Ethridge song and she had two big hits in 1994, so Lauren is branching out a little, though not for AI, because "Come To My Window" and "I'm The Only One" have been done many times on the show already.

Karen will probably sing something by the Miami Sound Machine.

Song spoilers for tonight: Casey is singing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Thia is singing "Colors of the Wind" from the Pocahontas movie. to the latter and to the former.

Disappointed with Naima tonight, I hope she doesn't go home. Little Miss Sunshine sure can play up the audience, huh? Plus, the judges really sugarcoated their critique of her so she wouldn't bawl like a baby on stage.

Overall, with the exception of Stefano and maybe Pia and Scotty, it was a meh night for me. I must admit Casey took a major risk in singing "Smells Like Teen Spirit," but I give him kudos for trying. Also, could they be move obvious dressing Thia like Pocahontas? I'm surprised they didn't have a teepee on stage while she was singing.

All you had to do was sing that song straight and it would have been great because it would have been different. As it was, it was a hot mess.

I know that Pia is technically a GREAT singer, but something is just missing for me with her.

I thought James, Stefano, Lauren, and Scotty were all pretty good. Casey looked possessed or something during his performance. I hated that he chose to sing that; I get what he was trying, but just no. To me it was just a wasted opportunity for him. He could have been risky but still actually have SUNG doing something like "Under the Bridge" by RHCP, "Fall At Your Feet" by Crowded House, or "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M. And even though I'm not nuts about the song, "Walking In Memphis" came out in 1991 and was practically MADE for Casey's voice/style! I think that a lot of older folks (including my parents) really like him, and they would have eaten that shit up.

After seeing Scotty's lead-in video, I really hope that he sings Elvis at some point this season.

I think that Haley will get kicked off this week. She was already hanging by a thread with that performance, and then she put the final nail in her coffin with the lipstick all over her face. Poor thing! And generally I hate when the judges criticize the contestants for trying something different, but I agree with Randy when he says that he doesn't understand who she is: Alicia Keys, then Leann Rimes, then Whitney? Really? And she sang the Beatles for her audition IIRC. She doesn't seem to have a clue what kind of singer she wants to be.

We here at Casa divasahm have decided that Casey reminds of us of Will Ferrell in the "More Cowbell" sketch--especially last night. Not our favorite performance of his, but still more interesting than most.

I just want to slap some sense into Lauren. She did seem drunk on cough syrup last night. Everyone else was either teetering on the edge or boringly good.

Ds1 said it best--"I kinda wish we were getting rid of two at a time for a while. It's gonna be a loooong season."
