I saw it yesterday and really liked it. I'll definitely recommend it to my friends. It was scary and touching and lot of fun. I do love Kyle Chandler, he needs to do more movies.

I saw it today, and I liked it a lot. It did have that Goonies-type feel to it, but less of a plot, especially by the end of the movie. I felt like a lot wasn't really explained, though overall it didn't really matter to me because I liked the characters so much. Loved that they went with mostly unknown actors; I was really impressed by how real the kids seemed (and looked). I didn't *love* it, but I wonder if part of that is seeing it as an adult, which can't compare to the first time I watched movies like Goonies or Stand By Me at the age of 12 or 13.

I didn't really get how the ending worked, but oh well. Still a really fun movie with lots of laugh-out-loud moments. "I could get back into disco." "Drugs are so bad!!"

Also Amanda Foreman was in it as the news reporter of the train crash.
I loved it, it gave me this lovely nostalgic feeling. It felt familiar and comforting. Elle Fanning was wonderful. It was almost a story about the children with the alien plot as a backdrop. That is the kind of thing that really draws me in -- I couldn't have kept watching Lost if I didn't care for the characters.

I don't know how to link it, but if you google "super 8 deleted scene" a very cute bonus clip comes up.
I went to see this movie again, and liked it even better the second time. Plus, the second viewing filled in some of those plotholes for me. The climax is still a bit weak, imo, but I liked the characters so much that it didn't really matter.

Just watched this tonight and LOVED it. I didn't know anything about the plot or story (how did I miss it?), which was probably a good thing. It definitely had a retro, old Spielberg vibe, but in a good way: it didn't feel copy-cat-ish or anything. The kids were all awesome. Yeah, the ending was a little weak, but it was alright... Definitely recommending this one to friends and family!
