Mods, I hope it is ok to start a new thread for this movie...
So, I saw this on Friday night and loved it. So much fun - Zoe certainly can kick a** and take names. And kudos to the little girl actress playing Cataleya as a kid - she was pretty awesome. Again lots of fun, and my theatre broke into applause a couple of times.
The movie was fast-paced, economical, did not waste a second on sentimentalities or explanations, but I wish there was a little bit more time setting up her adult life (perhaps a montage of the character being trained with the guns or fights, something). One thing I really enjoyed was the use of bright colors in the outside world, but how everything related to the character (both her home and wardrobe) was done in a neutral palette - all grays, flax, olive and backs, v. cool visuals.
BTW, I loved Cliff Curtis on this, even if he did sound like Tony of Scarface.

This is PG-13. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what the level of sex and violence is. Next week is my birthday week and we have no sitter so my 12 yr old would have to go with us. (She doesn't want to stay home alone)
Honestly, she's seen John Woo films so the guns won't bother her. Maybe the intensity during her (Cataleya) childhood years might, though? Is that really tense and emotional? Any dry humping in her adult years?
Sorry to junk up the thread with Mommy Worries.
ETA: Thanks! And my 12yr old grew up in Europe LOL We're pretty straight-forward and sensible about movies and what's appropriate for her. She makes that call most of the time herself.

Mrs.CatHead, let me preface my response by saying that I don't have kids and am pretty comfortable with sex, sex talk and nudity (European background, but raised w/ catholic school and very strict parents couldn't change my relaxed way of thinking). That said, the movie only shows some kissing, girl sitting on guy's lap, and couple getting into and out of bed; girl in shower but no real nudity, girl in underwear, so a 12-y.o. should be fine. The kissing is actually sweet and not porn-y.
The parents' murder happens off-screen, not too intense, really.
ETA: There is a scene of a male character in bed with four scantily-clad women, nothing shown, but the implications are clear.
P.S. - Happy Birthday!

As I'm sure I've asked a million times, is it worth full price or strictly matinee, which is an 'economical' $9.50 these days?

See, for me it was worth the $17.95 charged on my theatre on Friday night - i enjoyed it immensely. Yeah, that is the "new" price the AMC 25 is charging for their ETX presentations (what can I say, they are greedy a**holes!)

Just saw this. We loved it for what it was. Loved watching ZoeS kick booty. And man, the little girl playing her as a child was unnaturally beautiful. So so gorgeous. Those big eyes.
Speaking of, later when Zoe's character was being described, the guy said hazel eyes. No way that little actress playing her as a child had hazel eyes. Also, we noticed some Movie Mistakes but they weren't important so it didn't really matter.
I can totally tell the spots where the movie could have moved to Rated R, rather than PG-13. LittlestCatHead said there were parts where she was prepared to look away, her head on my shoulder, and it got riiiiiiiight to that point and they cut to the next scene.

I'm intrigued by this - however, I'm Colombian-American, and I'm a little hesitant on how the country is portrayed. Can anyone give me any info on that?

oceansun, they're not actually in the country that long. It's established what the bad guys do for a living & how Cataleya's parents are involved, but that's it. There are drug inferences for sure, but the story involves more than one particular kingpin. In short, it's more about revenge, less about crime in Colombia.

Just rented this, great movie! I didn't know Luc Besson was involved until I saw a preview on another DVD, or I might have gone to see it in the theater.

We got the BluRay for LittlestCatHead for her 13th bday. It's one of her favorite movies now.
