I actually liked the way the movie handled the U.S. concerns about Thatcher's involvement in the Falklands. When Thatcher responded to the American representative's remarks that the Falklands were just a tiny batch of islands way the hell away from Britain with "Yes. Like Hawaii." almost everyone in my theater went "Ooooooh!" It really was a good "burn" remark, for lack of a better word. I have no idea if Thatcher ever said that, but it was an excellent analogy.
I didn't think the film itself was all that great, but I found Streep's performance convincing. I pretty much forgot I was watching Streep about 15 minutes into the movie, which says something. Like flamethrower I didn't really like the Julia Child performance and never quite forgot that I was watching Meryl Streep play Julia Child.
The two actors who played young Margaret and young Denis were very good. I'd like to see them go on to get bigger, better roles.

Just watched this and was worried Streep's performance might have been over-hyped. It wasn't. She was absolutely amazing. The movie wasn't great, but it was good: Meryl elevated it, but I thought it was still a pretty strong movie. Obviously it didn't try to be about her political life, more like fragments of her life that she browsed through as her mind was going. I thought it used the mental deterioration and the way that mixes present and past pretty well to stitch the movie together. Meryl and the makeup department definitely deserved their Oscars!
