I was just talking about him a few weeks ago. My mom and I were pondering if he was alive or not.

Tragic news. No matter what show/film he did, he managed to steal every scene he was in, from The Andy Griffith Show to Pleasantville.
RIP, Don.

A great entertainer. I always enjoyed seeing him on the big and small screeen.
I'll miss his humour.

This is indeed sad. I just saw him on TV about 3 weeks ago in an old Flip Wilson sketch where he played an arresting officer who was handcuffed to his perp (Flip) and ended up going on the date with Flip and his girl. Funny sketch and a very warm and funny guy. He will be missed.

The Andy Griffith Show was so great with so many iconic characters yet Barney stands above all the others. If that were his only achievement, he would still be a legend. However, Don Knotts kept on creating great characters and making people laugh year after year. He is more than deserving of his "icon" status.
He will be missed but always remembered.

Ugh. It breaks my heart to hear of his passing. I have always been a huge fan of his and The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again holds a special place in my heart as it was the last movie I ever saw with my Mom who moved away to another state the very next day. I call it our farewell nice knowing you movie.

Aww, yeah - The Ghost and Mr. Chicken is still hilarious. I watched it a few months ago with my 16 year old son, and even HE thought it was funny.

"Just Nip it, Andy. Nip. it. in. the. bud."
One bullet but an itchy trigger finger. Last week, I happened to watch one of my favorite TAGS episodes, the one where Barney was wearing his uniform everywhere because a bully told him that when he caught him without it, he'd beat him up.
I loved his movies The Reluctant Astronaut and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Mr. Furley was hilarious and I liked his character on Matlock.
