I did a search and didn't see a thread so here goes. I saw it last night and found it painful to watch. The HuffPo review[/color] said something similar. Yes, yes, Oldman is brilliant. It was also appallingly slow and badly paced. And I enjoy spy movies. I was really looking forward to this since I liked Let the Right One In, but I just couldn't get into it. Plus, all that exposure to seventies grime and drab made me feel like I needed a shower.

Thank God I'm not the only one. For me it was both confusing AND dull as dirt, and I'm no longer surprised it's largely getting shut out of awards season. And Tom Hardy looked awful in that crappy blond wig.

I received a late-night text from my BFF last night simply saying "Tinker Tailor Soldier Snooze."

I've heard from several people that it's really difficult to follow. I guess I'll skip it and wait for the DVD. Too bad, because I'm basically Gary Oldman's bitch.

I thought it was fantastic, but very, VERY John Le Carre-esque. Also, I'd read the book and knew what happened, so maybe that made it easier to follow? Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

I didn't think it was difficult to follow, exactly, but the big reveal didn't resonate with me, either. I was more moved by Smiley's plotline overall, and by the sense that the lives the characters were leading were ultimately so...small. That the battles of the Cold War were incredibly brutal, for incredibly petty reasons.

Whoever is doing the marketing sucks because I nearly angrily tweeted that the Voiceover guy at the Globes is incorrect and Colin Firth isn't in this. Which, according to IMDB, he is. But somehow I had completely forgot that fact.

My husband is jumping up and down with excitement about seeing this... maybe I will let him go it alone.

The book is one of my all-time favourite books, and I love all LeCarre's cold war books. The TV-series was good, but it feels dated today, and I've been excited about the movie. It's been getting a lot of great reviews, but you never know... now I'm feeling a little worried! Oldman doesn't really look like I imagined Smiley, but he's always amazing so... keeping hope alive that my LeCarre/Smiley fangirlishness will survive.
