But she didn't yell it in jail or while being arrested. She yelled it while sitting in her own car as her husband was being given a sobriety test. Had she not started threatening the cop, she might have been allowed to call a cab or a contact to drive her home. Instead she escalated the situation to the point where she got taken in for obstructing justice.
ETA: Not a bad apology, as far as those things go. She does flat out say she was wrong, and though she was scared, that's no excuse for the shitty behavior.

I disagree. It was a bullshit apology. She was still trying to excuse herself because she was "scared" for her husband. Yes, because the police is usually especially harsh with rich white men. Whatever. Totally agree. I also notice that she doesn't mention anything about how she and her husband were in the wrong for driving drunk. Just that she was scared for him. She should have been scared for the people they endangered by driving drunk. Her "apology" reeks of PR clean up. I mean, the police report was leaked, so it's not like she could really deny that she acted like an asshole. It's hilarious that she pulled the "I'm a US citizen and do you know who I am" cards. I've always thought she was an asshole and her friendship with Handler, that speech about Hollywood bad girls at the MTV movie awards and this recent arrest just reinforce it for me.

It's a pretty good apology. It was a total jackass move, beginning to end, but still. As far as celebrity apologies go, this is a pretty good one. I agree - it's not the best apology, but maybe she'll issue a better apology in the future in which she really takes responsibility for her actions. It's still pretty early yet, and I assume a cadre of attorneys are involved, so I'll give her a pass for this apology and wait until she has a chance to reflect on what she's done before I judge her apology. As for her actions, I'll go ahead a judge them right now: she acted irresponsibly and was a self-important jerk and put other people's lives at risk - it was a major douche move and she has no excuse.

I don't care for Reese Witherspoon, but me and Laura Jeanne Poon can hang anytime!

This shit is the most annoying part for me...
That just feels very - right wing douchy. I know people say whacked out stuff when they're drunk. But unfortunately it's usually what they REALLY think (hi, Mel Gibson!).
All bad things lead back to Chelsea Handler.

I'm still kinda shocked by it. I would not have guessed her to be so reckless. Bitchy, sure, but reckless? No way. How disappointing. And, not that drunk driving is okay or acceptable at ANY age, but she's much too old for this kind of screw up. From my point of view, by her age one has likely experienced some loss, etc, and just aren't as full of risks. I guess I am kind of judging her harder than some other Hollywood offenders. I guess I thought she just had more class and sense than this bs.

Yeah, the "I'm an American..." bullshit bugged me the most. The fact that she thought she could get cute with the police rubs me the wrong way. I would never step out of the car without being told, and would never sass a police officer, especially when my husband is dead ass drunk and being arrested. She's lucky her sass mouth didn't get her tased before being hauled off to jail. What a brat.
ETA-- Laura Jeanne Poon. Snerk.

It's not like cops are just being bossy when they tell you to stay in the car - they are trying to protect themselves from somebody lunging at them or attacking them with a weapon, which happens on a regular basis. Every traffic stop is dangerous for them.
