Well, I guess his turn as James Bond is now over. But is it really still that great of a role?
I am old enough to remember him on that old TV show Remington Steele; talk about tall, dark and handsome!

I liked him best in GoldenEye, although my fondness may be based on teh sex of that movie -- Pierce, Sean Bean, and for a bit of kink, Alan Cumming and Famke Janssen. Oh yeah. He unfortunately looked old in Die Another Day, although that movie is so fucking ludicrous I kind of had fun watching it (I also like Toby Stephens, although DAD was not his finest hour).
I thought he was good in The Thomas Crown affair, but was utterly upstaged by Geoffrey Rush in The Tailor of Panama (then again, GR upstaged most of the cast of Mystery Men IMHO).
I haven't seen Evelyn but it looked schlocky. True?

Such an old whiner and ingrate. I just read a blub where he is quoted as saying that he feels free and liberated from the franchise (he was let go, apparently) and that he hated saying the one-liners that Bond is so well known for. Jesus, idiot. If he hated the infamous Bond one-liners, why take the role? Yes, I know. Money. Maybe it's just spin, and his feelings are hurt. He always seemed like a prick to me. A whiny, smug, ****wad. What a waste of a gorgeous face.

I've always had a lot of respect for the guy. He handles his private life well, didn't marry a stick-insect of a wife, writes poetry, paints, directs, produces and acts. He also seems like a good dad and he's had some challenges there. On his official site he talks about Bond and seems to have a fondness for the films. I had a friend (I know, I know) who worked with him in his Remington days and she says he was always professional and a real gentleman. That was good enough for me.

I always thought he really wanted to be Bond. Wasn't that the press going around when he first got the role - like he wanted it back in the Remington Steele days but was too young?. I thought he was a great Bond. Second only to Connery (although Goldeneye can take on some of Connery's lesser Bond efforts, imo). It is going to be super tough to replace him.

Actually, I think that he was actually offered the role of Bond during the Remington Steele days and had to turn it down because of the TV show. He thought that it would be his last chance at being Bond, and was understandably very upset.
When he was again offered the role many years later, he jumped at the chance.
I think that he was a pretty good Bond overall. My list:
1) Connery (of course) 2) Dalton (very dark, brutal Bond - quite cool, IMO) 3) Brosnan (not believably brutal, but still tough enough to get away with it) 4) Lazenby (debatable, I know - I just thought that he had the physical presence to pull it off) 5) Moore (ugh. Just ugh. Girly man.)
If I forgot any Bonds, I blame it on the beers.

I'm willing to debate that he's not the BEST Bond, but he's my favorite, which is all I really care about. Pierce Brosnan was my favorite Bond because he's the only one I can imagine wanting to drop my panties for. Goldeneye is my favorite Bond film, mainly because it's got Pierce Brosnan AND Sean Bean (rrowr) AND Alan Cuming AND Famke Janssen.
I think he's incredibly handsome and funny.

False. Evelyn was one of his best roles. I wish he'd do more roles of that nature.
I tend to like him when he's not playing James Bond although I didn't mind him in the one he made with Halle Berry.

I thought I was the only one who really liked Timothy Dalton's Bond.
