RDJ is indispensible to the enjoyment of these films...which is to the detriment of other Marvel superhero stand-alone films. There's even a quip by Guy Pierce's character "yeah subtlety went out the window once that big guy with the hammer came flying down." That's the thing Tony Stark doesn't strain incredulity to the same extent that Thor and Captain America (and the Hulk but Ruffalo's a great fit). The Iron Man movies (as produced/directed by Happy Hogan) have gravitas that the other films lack. Avengers took full advantage of this. Not sure how other Marvel movies will do without RDJ as Tony. Hopefully he signs on for Avengers 2. As for the film itself I really enjoyed it but it was far too long.

Well the end credits said "Tony Stark will return" so I'm assuming that means in Avengers 2.

Saw it today, it was entertaining and must admit Gwyneth's abs looked amazing.

RDJ would have chemistry with a rock. It was fun, loud, entertaining. Had some gravitas. And that "accidental" skydiving sequence was intense!

I really enjoyed it. It probably surpasses the first Iron Man as my favorite of the three. The callbacks to The Avengers were handled just right, and Tony being so far out of his comfort zone really worked. I really enjoyed seeing his intelligence in action during some of the MacGuyverish improvisation he was forced to do. And dang, I may not like Gwyneth Paltrow offscreen but I thought she was great as Pepper. I've always been on the fence about that character (never liked the "long-suffering girlfriend" thing) but they really did right by her this time. I also really dug Rebecca Hall, who is consistently great in everything I see her in, and I wish she'd had more scenes with Pepper. It was so nice to see non-stereotypical interactions between women characters. Ben Kingsley is probably one of about three people who could have pulled off what he did. My only complaint, as someone else mentioned upthread, is that I could've used more Cheadle. The after-credits sequence made me smile

I loved it! Really amazing cast for what is essentially a comicbook movie. I can't imagine Marvel ever doing anything without RDJ as Tony Stark - so much of the movie wouldn't have worked without him.

Ben Kingston was amazing. I loved the Mandarin twist. Still hate Gwyneth though.
