I just viewed Stage Beauty and thought, as usual, he was incredible! He is such a great actor. It's a tragedy that his personal life has overshadowed this movie.

I know he left Mary Louise Parker for Claire Danes during this movie but still....the man can act.

Search for a thread about him on these boards came up nil so I thought I'd start one. If this is a duplicate, someone let me know

I am a huge fan - he is so pretty and such a great (but way underrated!) actor. I know the end of his relationship with Mary Louise Parker and subsequent relationship with Claire Danes was a blow to any sort of stardom he might wish for (although I believe him when he says he doesn't want to be super famous), but it didn't change the way I feel about his looks or acting abilities.

I think his performance in Jesus' Son is one of the best ever captured on film. He just inhabits the lead role so completely and has zero sense of vanity about the whole thing. That performance made me a super fan and will keep me loyal through disappointments like Charlotte Gray and Big Fish.

I got to meet him after a performance of The Pillowman in New York in early June and the dude was the nicest person I've ever met. Granted I was heaping tons of praise on his acting abilities, but he was incredibly gracious to spend even five minutes talking to my mom and me. I did wonder afterwards if maybe he wasn't trying to be extra friendly to the common folk to combat the bad publicity from Mary-Louise. But my gut instinct was that he was a genuinely nice guy.

He was also quite possibly the hottest guy I've ever seen. He has such an amazing smile and just exudes sex.

A friend of mine met him after a performance of Oedipus years ago and pretty much said the same thing. My friend started gushing about his performance and Billy took the time to talk to him, all the while being incredibly nice and seemingly sincere. My friend was studying theater at NYU at the time and Billy even spoke to him about the importance of going to school and learning the craft of acting. Even if he might be a tool in some respects, he really does seem like a decent person.

Agreed. I can't imagine what could justify that but it seems all parties concerned were pained over how things developed.

A friend and I got to meet him after "The Pillowman" as well and I agree, he was a doll. I wasn't a fan, in fact, had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the play, but he was amazing. Jeff Goldblum kicked ass too.

I liked him a lot in Waking the Dead (?) with Jennifer Connelly. That movie saddened me and I've been thinking for a while to re-rent it. He was okay in Big Fish and I haven't heard much about Stage Beauty besides the gossip fodder and didn't want to rent it 'cause I find Claire very annoying, but I may give it a chance if it's good.


As for Mary-Louise? No man can be justified for dumping a pregnant girlfriend, especially when the other woman is Claire Danes (yes I am biased!), but it's not my life so as long as he continues to be a good artist and a fairly decent person, I try to not let it bother me. Does he even see his son?

I've only seen him in Almost Famous and Waking the Dead, but I think he's a pretty great actor.

I also think it's possible he wasn't wholly at fault in the split with MLP. Leaving your preggers gf looks really bad, but if things had totally disintegrated...well, maybe it was just time to go. I also love MLP, but I think it's prettty well known she can bring the bitch.

I suspect it was more mutual than the media made it out to be, but she was pissed he rebounded so fast and let him take all the heat in the press.
