So Laura Prepon is definitely only coming back for one episode in season 2. I am curious to what went down. I'm assuming it was money, it usually is. I wonder how much she wanted or they offered. It seems crazy for her to walk away from her most high profile role in years. And while she's probably not mega rich, That 70s Show is always playing in syndication. She must be getting some decent residual checks.

If this was Prepon's decision, I think it was a stupid one. She may not need the money, but this is the most buzz her career has received since That 70s Show. Feels like she's shooting herself in the foot.
And I think the show will be just fine without her. The supporting characters are awesome and they can bring someone else in for Piper to hook up with.

Its possible it was a creative decision, it would just be odd considering she was essentially the second lead. And even if they wanted to wrap up her storyline you'd think they'd want more then one episode considering how much time they dedicated to her in the first season. I know a lot of people (including me) thought she was the weakest actor on the show. But its not like she was hated, more of an apathy towards her character. And there were people who did like the Alex and Piper relationship. I do hope they will continue to explore Piper's bisexuality and giver her a new love interest within the prison. Is it wrong to hold out hope that she and Crazy Eyes can make it work?

I just finished watching this an hour ago, and I loved it. Though I have to say I'm glad Laura Prepon is leaving because I freaking hate Alex. I don't hate Piper or Larry but I don't love them either. I'd like to smack Pennsatucky but other than that, I love everyone. I really like the budding friendship between Sophia and Sister Ingalls.

I've just started watching and am only 4 episodes in. I was following the rules and got through the first 1.5 pages of this thread but then decided not to spoil it for myself -- sorry. I'm really enjoying the show. Like the rest of you said, what a great bunch of roles for women of all colors and shapes! (I was about to add "ages", but then found myself thinking I haven't seen anyone older than middle-aged, so far.) I'm completely willing to suspend my disbelief in places because it's so worth it. Regarding Piper's character: I'm OK with her as the vehicle for exploring the world the show depicts. She hasn't annoyed me much yet and seems pleasantly nonjudgemental so far -- a good blank slate. Like many others, I am much less interested in the scenes focusing on her family or fiance. Aside: here's an interesting recent article on Netflix's movie categories. I think I should go buy some of their stock. I can picture the management in a boardroom plotting world domination. Think about it: they're getting incredible amounts of data on what so many people are watching and how they like it, broken down by age, gender, location, and their estimate of customers' income, which is not hard to get. With the Arrested Development season and this show (I haven't tried House of Cards yet), I like how they're using their money to expand the business.

I follow several OITNB cast members on social media and they've posted some sad news. Michelle Hurst, who plays Ms. Claudette, was in a serious car accident over the holidays and is in ICU after several surgeries. There is a website set up where fans can donate to help with medical bills. Hope she recovers soon!
