To be quite honest, none of those three names come to mind when I think "power of young Hollywood." When was the last time any of them had a huge hit? Mendes' last two singles flopped, Amanda is coming off a flop film (The Darkest Minds [budget: 34 million, box office total: 12 million], and Davidson has never been able to leverage his SNL gig into film stardom. Heck, he hasn't even been able to become one of SNL's in-house stars, like Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, or even Kenan Thompson have. I fail to see how any of those three are "powerful Hollywwod"...

True. But at least they have instant recognition (with some portion of the population). Even if I hadn't watched Amandla's movies, or listened to Shawn's music (I've done neither), I could pick them out of a lineup. Pete Davidson is the 5th(?) lead on SNL. That's it. Does he even have a bit role in a movie to promote? Does he have a side hustle like Lonely Island? Amandla may not be a box office smash, but she is the go to black girl in HW right now. Shawn Mendez is a tamer, possibly gay Bieber in the making (at least someone is trying to make this happen). He's played at least 2 awards shows in recent memory. Pete got engaged to Ariana and started hitting to talk show/podcast circuit to promote that. Does he even do standup?

Pete did have a small role in the Netflix movie “To All the Boys I Loved Before” so I suppose there’s that. I’ve never heard of Amandla whoever. I think Shawn Mendes is bigger than he’s being credited for, his song “In My Blood” seems to be everywhere. Of the 3 I’d say he’s the biggest right now.

I can't speak to Shawn Mendes, but Amandla is definitely a star in the making and a perfect choice for a "Young Hollywood" magazine cover IMO. She doesn't have a bunch of hits under her belt yet, but she's got some very high buzz movies in the works and a lot of potential.
I doubt anybody would have picked Pete Davidson out of the SNL lineup and identified him as someone with an unusual amount of potential if it weren't for his personal life.

I just watched that movie on Netflix tonight (super cute!) and I don’t remember him being in it at all. The new season of SNL starts soon. It will be interesting to see if Pete’s newfound recognition as Ariana’s fiancé will translate to more screentime for him. I’m of the opinion that he’s never wanted to do much on SNL because he’s kind of lazy and doesn’t feel like putting the work in. But who knows?

He was in “Set it up” as the roommate. Not sure about the other one, I haven’t watched it yet.

Thoughts on Ariana's tribute to Aretha at the funeral:
1. She really does have a great voice, but her total inability to enunciate has ruined almost every performance I've seen, and it seems to be getting worse. I would love to hear her tackle something classic and challenging with lots of consonants--she'd blow everyone else out of the water.
2. When you are paying tribute at a funeral or memorial service--girl, cover your bottom. I kept waiting for somebody to run over and drape her with the casket pall a la James Brown.

I saw this trending yesterday and I'm glad he felt forced to respond. I would put this in the Hollywood Behaving Badly thread, but I made the last post in that thread, so maybe someone else will feel obliged to move it over there. This story is such a perfect illustration of why sexual harassment/ assault is so hard to combat. From the fact that people are factoring in what she's wearing, to his infuriating maybes, to the fact that half of the women who have heard about this are probably willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because he's clergy. Bottom line is there was no excuse for him to touch her like that. It was completely inappropriate. She's spoken out on things like this in the past, but I have a feeling she will feel pressured to laugh this off. eta not calling you out, divasahm ! Just noticed that you mentioned her dress in your post. It was a questionable length for a funeral. I just meant that it doesn't excuse anyone getting handsy with her.

I watched the clip of him digging his fingers into the side of her breast while she leaned away from him, trying not to cause a scene and felt so bad for Ariana. How many of us have been in similar positions with no way out, because if we complain then we are accused of over reacting? His non-apology apology pissed me off!
