I admit I went into this assuming Adnan was innocent. And there was a huge injustice. After listening to every episode, I think this case is full of confusion and lies and things that don't make sense. Jay confuses me, he comes across as such a liar. And yet I believe that Adnan had something to do with the killing.

Not about Serial: WTF with Marc Maron is usually pretty good, and his interview with Melissa Etheridge did a lot to rub off the "ass! Hole!!" stain on her reputation, until she started talking about her opinion of chemotherapy. "Lots of people get chemo and they still die!!!" Oh god.
It was a mildly amusing juxtaposition because the podcast we'd listened to prior was Startalk, in which Neil deGrasse Tyson went off on pseudoscience in medicine.

I've been meaning to listen to Marc Maron's podcast. It's random but a girl I subscribe to on YouTube (leighannsays) was apparently dating him for awhile, and she talked about his podcast several times. I think they have broken up now, though. And from what I understand, he is frequently talking about his effed up love life? Haha. But I saw him on Conan I think, and it was weird, I totally wouldn't have put the two of them together (she's in her 20's and very... spunky, sometimes too much, though I do like her).

His earlier podcasts were about half stand-up style rants, half interview. This past year it's much longer interviews with much shorter personal segments, and they're kind of general-- today it was about being lonely and friendless at Xmas, and nothing really about his love life, although he occasionally interjects something (divorce, sex) as a way of relating to or joking with his guest. It's kind of an acquired taste, but he has a huge archive, so I recommend choosing a random few you'd be interested in.

You're welcome! To be honest, if I had not been repeatedly subjected to hours of it on road trips, I wouldn't have gotten halfway through one episode, so I might have a touch of Stockholm Syndrome

Well, I'm trying to branch out a bit with my podcasts because I mostly listen to Disney ones (seriously, there are like 4-5 of those that I listen to weekly because I am a serious Disneyphile). I did enjoy Serial, and I've always liked This American Life even before podcasts were a "thing." I'd really like a new non-Disney podcast to get into.

Re: Marc Maron podcasts - I just skip the first 20 minutes or so of his stuff so that I don't have to hear him drone on about whatever it is that he's decided to go on about that day. I listen for the guests not Maron's whiney voice.
I recommend "By the way with Jeff Garlin" for some funny stuff. Listen to the ones with people that you are interested in or know about already to get the best experience. His interview with Henry Rollins is almost comfort food for me I love it so much.
ETA: I still think Adnan did it, but this case was such a gigantic mess that I am still a little surprised at the conviction. So my opinion really didn't alter much over the course of the show, I guess. Once I listened to this last episode of Serial, I discovered that my alter ego on the show was Dana (or at least I think that was the producer's name - Sarah likened her to Spock.) Anyway, like her I think that if he didn't do it, Adnan is the unluckiest man alive.

I go through phases with WTF. Maron annoys me by cutting his guests off too much to interject personal stuff that, we, the listeners, have heard him tell a million times. And at this point, his podcast is well-known enough in show business that I imagine most of his interviewees have heard him tell those stories as well. I had to stop listening to Pete Holmes's podcast as well because I've heard his religion/divorce stories a billion times and also he refuses to keep the interviews under two hours (seriously? edit yourself). I mean he makes me LOL at least once on every podcast, but two hours plus is a lot to ask. Most of us podcast listeners to subscribe to way more than one or two weekly podcasts. It begins to feel like homework.
I'm saving the last Serial for after my Christmas trip because I feel like if I try to listen to it on the road I will want to be Googling things about the case that I forgot or that come up.
Y'all, my latest personal favorite is The Dollop with Dave Anthony and Gareth Reynolds. They're both comedians and Dave was co-host of my fave of all time podcast Walking the Room (with Greg Behrendt) which is extremely profane and ridiculous. The Dollop has Dave pick a person or event (often historical figures, but sometimes just ridiculous recent history) that usually has some bizarre twist to it. Topics have included Lobotomies, Cliven Bundy, Competitive Tickling, Carry A Nation, Colonial Teeth, Daredevils, Ten Cent Beer Night, Ferguson (yes, before the most recent spate of bullshit - very good history of that region's racial dynamics), and this month was LAPD month (let's talk about the corruption of the LAPD).

I have a love/hate relationship with Tank Riot. They seem bright, and their pop culture topics are pretty funny and interesting, but when they get into serious topics (Jane Goodall, GMOs are two episodes that come to mind), their research seems really superficial and kind of dumb.
Mr Cho listens to a ton of comedy podcasts, and has one himself, but those wear really, really thin for me. After a while, it all blurs together and it's dudes talkin' dude stuff to other dudes, and complaining that audiences don't "get" them. Although they'll have interesting guests from time to time, any interest I had in stand-up comedy has long since turned to dust and been reformed into life in far-distant galaxies. [/rant]
