I watched it yesterday and was familiar with a lot of it, but hearing the first-person accounts was particularly interesting. It was also the first time I'd seen Miscavage in motion. Creepy freak doesn't even begin to describe him. And watching Cruise in Scientology action ... well, those two are perfect for each other. One of the little things that stood out to me was Miscavage's habit of announcing the exact time that certain things happened. Is that just him or is it a Scientology thing?
It was interesting that Hubbard started to believe his own BS at the end, though also clearly thought he might be mentally ill.

I finally found it online. Crazy. LRon was super bad but Miscavage is downright diabolical. He will be the downfall of Scientology. His ego is just too big.

This makes me think that if Travolta would just publicly denounce the whole thing and come out of the closet, the effect would be enormous. I barely know who Jason Beghe is and I’m thinking he’s C or B list, at most.
Tom Cruise seems to be too deep into Scientology to turn against it (and maybe he doesn’t want to), plus I think he’s considered too weird and has-been by many in the public and the industry. He also isn’t “beloved” as a celebrity the way John Travolta is.
Which means Travolta really has so much power here. If he did an Oprah or 60 Minutes style interview, admitting that Scientology is lot of harmful b.s., that while he loves his wife he actually is gay (or bi) and that he lived in fear for a long time and made some big mistakes because of their influence – he’d be lauded. I think it would a career resurgence for him, he’s have so much support from Hollywood and the public, and he’d be a hero for declaring that the emperor has no clothes.
If Beghe's Scientology defection caused ripples, Travolta's would be a tsunami.

The only way JT could leave Scientology is if he convinced Kelly Preston to leave with him. If he were to go it alone he'd be labeled an SP and Kelly and other cult members would get to work turning the kids against him in the same way that Nicole Kidman's kids were turned against her. It's not even about custody. As long as Kelly is a full on clam he's stuck.

Travolta would never see those kids again if he left. You know Ella is fully indoctrinated by now and Benjamin's coming along. He's young enough to believe any kind of krap he was told about his father.

Kelly is a hardcore clam and if Travolta gets labeled an SP, he'll never see those kids again. Though, he truly did drink the Kool-aid to some extent. Not only was he all "What other religion is based on joy?" (Um, all of them, dude) he was all "imagine a world without crime and war!" while sitting there in head-to-toe military fatigues. So he is a bit out of touch with reality.

I know. I have a very strong reaction to Kelly Preston. She seems to pop up in a lot of kid movies, and when I see her I just kind of recoil. I think she is beautiful, but so cold.

So he is a bit out of touch with reality. Oh yeah, I have no doubt he actually believes in the doctrine. The man felt the need to make Battlefield Earth to honor Hubbard after all. He denied for years his son was autistic though it appears JT later changed his mind. I get the impression JT takes issue with is the leadership and Miscavige's many psycho actions. Of course, this suggests JT is unaware of the insane things Hubbard did. And yeah I had to chuckle at John going on about a world without war while wearing army fatigues. I wonder if the reporter challenged his stance on CO$ being the only religion to preach the idea of bringing peace and joy to all because he seemed to get rather defensive after that.

I have no idea whether Kelly actually believes the doctrine, but I know she'll never leave, because in the cult she's a VIP. If she were to leave there'd be a wave of goodwill, and then she'd go back to being a C-lister. At least her husband is talented.
