I think the Jesus garb and the inflatable sumo costume looks go way beyond embracing her height. It's like overcompensation for something (GoT being off the air maybe?). It's more like she's trying to establish a Lena Dunham-esque red carpet persona.

I don’t see much difference between how she does the red carpet and how, say, Cate Blanchett or Tilda Swinton does the red carpet - both embrace the “quirky” or cutting edge side of fashion. She’s just taller than they are.

But if she is doing it for attention, I don’t think it’s in a “Look at me, I’m so creative and unique” sort of way like Dunham, but more to keep herself on the radar, and I don’t blame her. She’s a good actress, but I have no doubt that she gets passed over for roles all the time because of her body (she got the biggest cheer of the GOT cast at the Emmys because people knew she turned in a damn good performance, it was bullshit that HBO didn’t put her up for Emmy consideration, and they loved that she put herself up for it - like, the big girls always gotta do it for themselves, so good on ya for not just letting HBO ignore you). She was tailor-made for Brienne on Game of Thrones, but roles like that are few and far between. I don’t see her as a desperate wannabe - she has the chops. So if she’s dressing like that to keep her name and face out there so some casting director will be all, “She’s unconventional looking, but I like the cut of her jib! Let’s give her the part!” I can’t fault her for it.

She just played Titania in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the National in London, which I think is a brilliant way to use her. Her physicality works for a mythical creature and her huge fan following will bring people to the theater who might not otherwise go. I know live theater is better attended overall there than in the U.S., but IMHO she's such a fan favorite she might have drawn in a different crowd.
