Not casting David Spade as Kato was a miss.

I had heard all sorts of good reviews, so I recorded it. I just watched episode one today. I think it's quite good so far. I like how they start with the fact it's just two years after the Rodney King case and riots. And I think Schwimmer is doing a good job as Kardashian, especially how hard it would be to believe a friend is capable of doing something so horrible.
On a personal note, the murder was just after I'd graduated college, and I was employed by the time the trial occurred. I was surprised how much of the case started to come back to me while watching, e.g., OJ traveling that night, Kato hearing the thumps on the wall, etc. And props to the guy playing Kato, as he's nailed the mannerisms.

I remember being home during summer vacation and seeing another car chase on the LA news. I didn't know who he was so it just seemed like a run-of-the-mill one. My 5th grade teacher made us watch the verdict and I think she thought he was innocent. I remember her being happy.
I really want to see this series since I was too young to understand while it was going on.

My kids weren't in school yet at the time, but if they were I'd be PISSED about that. I can understand high school teachers engaging in discussions with their students about these issues, but not elementary school teachers. Kids that age are too young to be exposed to murder porn. WTF?

I was 10 when trial began. I had no clue who OJ Simpson was so I really didn't understand why the media was focused on the case. My parents had to explain to me OJ was once a big time NFL player and he did some movies I wasn't allowed to watch yet. Anyway, as twisted as it sounds, the OJ Simpson trial was a big part of my childhood because my grandmother was obsessed with it and while my parents were quite at her level they did follow the trial pretty closely too.
I thought the first episode was pretty solid. The writing is good while the acting is excellent. Sarah Paulson and Courtney B Vance are so the acting standouts though Cuba Gooding Jr and David Schwimmer are good as well. So far, the only weak link is sadly John Travolta. His make up is awful but I could probably overlook that if he wasn't acting like he was doing an impersonation of Robert Shapiro for a SNL skit. Here's hoping he improves as the series goes on because so far he's being out acted by Ross Gellar and that's just sad.

For those that remember it and watch this mini series, how accurate it is? I know the chase was shown on live national tv, but were all these lawyers (Shapiro, Cochran, prosecutors) also on national TV or was it only in LA? People watching knew he was suicidal, with a gun? Black people back then thought he was a wannabe white sell out(I'm Black, but the only thing I knew about OJ pre murder was Hertz, Naked Gun, and former football player)? Not having seen the chase, I thought it was just a live feed, no commentary.

And watching the ep last night brought back vivid memories of the people cheering on the freeway overpasses. It was very surreal.

I had just graduated from HS and was living in Iowa. It was everywhere.
I remember news commentary on the white Bronco chase. I remember being in awe of the media coverage of it in fact, especially the helicopters for some reason. Maybe because they got there so fast? It all felt like it happened live. And the slowness of the chase was a total joke. And everyone definitely knew he had a gun.
I don't think anyone had seen such a media circus before. I think it forever changed the media and paparazzi too.

Wow, I am in awe. As stated in the what are you watching thread, I was on a plane/in terminal at the time, so this is blowing my mind. Because I did not pay attention to any of it at the time, I'm watching this kind of as a work of fiction because it is so surreal to me that it actually happened. All these years in my mind it was just cameras following the bronco wordlessly, although I remember hearing that people were cheering him. Did not even know he went home to be arrested. I cannot wait to see what else happened. How long did the chase last? I was surprised it took up the whole hour, so it must have lasted for several hours IRL. I need to research this, but I don't want to spoil the miniseries (and that sounds weird for something like this).
