I checked this one out this past Sunday. I was underwhelmed. What was good: Some of the chases, the special effects, the fact that everyone showed up in this one, Tom Cruise's famous run, and also Alec Baldwin adds some good acting. What was bad: Most of the other chases, super weak villain, Renner and Rhames are barely in it (although they are in it). It is also at least 30 min too long, there is no real suspense, too much dependence on special effects and the plot is not that interesting. When I walked out of this I thought to myself, " I have just seen a movie which appeared put together to check boxes rather than entertain me." I am interested in anyone else's opinion of this film. On a side note my friends liked the movie.

The villain's chin or lack thereof sort of was distracting and annoying, but liked the movie overall.

I liked it, but I liked Ghost Protocol more. The best part of this was Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust. Just give her the MI franchise because she was kicking ass and looking great while doing it. The stunts didn't impress me all that much. It was too long.

I enjoyed it, but the weak chin on the villain was distracting. Ha. Best thing about the movie? Seeing a leading actress over 40 whose face still moves and is very attractive.
ETA: I just looked up Rebecca Ferguson's age - 31. Holy crap! I'm leaving my initial comment here because all five of us that went to see the movie are in our 40s, and we all thought that she was too. Yikes. She's still beautiful though.

I am impressed by the person who sat down with Cruise and explained to him that he needs help to pull off these action movies, and I don't mean the plastic surgeon. He needs a strong supporting cast.

I liked it. Typical MI. Enjoyed the female lead who was all business.

Yeah, Ghost Protocol was the superior movie. I was really happy to see Ving Rhames back, but he and Jeremy Renner were really underused. Also, was there not even a nod to Paula Patton's character from the previous movie? I know she's kind of a mess IRL but seeing the Smurfette principle in full swing was annoying (no disrespect to Ilsa, who was amazing).
The motorcycle chase had a great ending, but the sequence itself was kind of like a rough draft of a Fast & Furious vehicle chase.
But there was a lot of stuff I did like. Credit where it's due, the underwater sequence actually made me say "Oh shit" out loud in the theater. More than once. Really spectacular build of tension there. The opera sequence was good, and the double-triple-quadruple crosses that piled up at the end were a lot of fun. All in all, I had a good time.

The movie felt too long for me because I watched it for Jeremy & he was barely in it. I also disliked all the unnecessary "eye candy" shots of Isla. The underwater scene need some Brian DePalma style split-screen that would have created tension. What was the point of TC being underwater for so long while filming if there were cuts?

I know she's kind of a mess IRL but seeing the Smurfette principle in full swing was annoying (no disrespect to Ilsa, who was amazing). We watched this over Christmas and thought it was good - the action scenes were great - but agree about Renner and especially Ving Rhames. Ving was criminally underused - why bring him back to have him do nothing? It was weird. They also never mentioned how Renner ended up being head of the IMF, that's quite a promotion from last movie. The villain in this one was kind of a cipher, I thought villains in the past couple of movies were stronger. Still, we all enjoyed it and thought it worth the rental. Glad Ilsa was such a strong character since there were hardly any other women in the movie.
