That sounds like tons of fun, GG! I hope your friend loves it. 'Mrs. Banks' is in While You Were Sleeping as the slightly dotty grandmother. She always makes me laugh. 'Jane' grew up to be the incredibly beautiful Alex in The 39 Steps (with Robert Powell). She was also in Upstairs, Downstairs (1970s series) as a young housemaid. Matthew Gerber died of pancreatitis at 21, according to the IMDb.

Mrs. Banks, Glynnis Johns, was also in my favorite Christmas movie of all time, The Ref, as the horrible grandma. It's a great performance, the polar opposite of Mrs. Banks.

I love this movie. Heaven knows how often I've seen it. I wanted Mary Poppins' bag when I was a wee Aurora. I take it back- I still do! Agree! That scene is my favorite...actually the entire sequence of her first night/time in the children's nursery is the best. Measuring the children, Spoonful of Sugar...I love it all. I thought Julie Andrews was GORGEOUS as a child (still do but just loved her in MP). I also thought Mrs. Banks was beautiful and loved her dresses. Also agree that Feed the Birds is just hauntingly beautiful. Love it all, how could that curmudgeonly author not love this movie?

I am another one who is rendered a teary mess by the Tuppence song, so much that I usually fast forward through it. We went to see the stage musical a few years ago and was trapped! in the theatre when that song was performed. Everyone could see me cry!!! (I have a thing about that.) I turned my head to the wall and tried to think about a million other things other than that song. Eek.
