Heather's "inspirational" song this week killed me.

I don't know why I got down on this show in the 2nd season. I've just binged through 6 episodes in a row. Incredibly imaginative, and a terrific group of actors with great chemistry. I loved that Soul Train / American Bandstand parody where they had blinders on for love.

I've never watched an episode. Is it any good?

I've never watched an episode. Is it any good? Yes. I could elaborate, but just trust us.

I've never watched an episode. Is it any good? If you have a knee-jerk, non-negotiable hate for musicals, skip it, but otherwise, give it a go.

Anyone else finish out the season? I feel like it went off the rails in the episodes that aired after the holiday break.

I have only just caught up (had to wait till the third season was on Netflix). Overall this was my least favorite season, I think, although it was still pretty good. I really respected the choice to not give Rebecca a 'sympathetic' mental illness, but I think the combination of that and the show's desire to deal with borderline in a semi-realistic, respectful way just does not make for great tv. The fast-forward was good, but they had really written themselves into a corner with giving her something requiring years upon years of probably-unsuccessful treatment. I almost wish they had done, like, a ten-year fast-forward instead; everyone would look more or less the same but they could also just skip ahead into, like, Rebecca and Paula starting a firm together or whatever. As it is, I have absolutely no idea what good direction they can go in now. Forcing Rebecca to have a moment of reckoning is great, but a show with Rebecca in jail is no show at all. Also I wish Trent had died. Apparently the show's creator said they have had a four-season plot arc in mind all along, so I want to have faith but...yikes.
There were definitely some high points--in general I thought the storyline of Rebecca's rock bottom/diagnosis/beginning treatment was very well done, 'Let's Generalize About Men' and the Rebecca/Nathaniel song about nothing being their fault were both great, the scene where Paula finds out Rebecca lied to her was FANTASTIC (I cried!) as was the scene where Paula tells her high school hook-up "That's...all I needed." In general Paula killed it. Also the Darryl/WhiJo breakup was well done, as was Hector's small character growth. Josh's mom is always great too. Valencia getting a girlfriend was great too although I think they could have done a lot more with it. All of the minor characters on this show are so great; no one feels like a throwaway.
