Does The Duke of York title (Prince Andrew’s title) revert back to the Crown once he passes since he has no male heirs? And since it is usually given to the 2nd son, would Harry receive it from Charles when he becomes king or would it be saved for Prince Louis and William will bestow the title. AND, if Andrew had male heirs and they had male heirs, would the title keep getting passed down Andrew’s line like the Kents and Gloucesters? Yes to most of your questions.Once king, Charles would have the ability to grant the title to Harry. Given the state of their relationship, the likelihood seems low. Even if the Sussexes were still working royals, I'm not sure what rules or protocols are in place to address when someone is eligible for a second dukedom. It seems more probable that it would be re-created in a William/Louis situation.

Thanks! So if it were to be bestowed to Harry, it would then pass down to Archie and then his son until there were no more males? It’s been a while since a Duke of York has had sons.

Literally since the Wars of the Roses the Duke of York has either died without issue, had only daughters or become King. That's 500+ years and the reason why it has not long passed out of the Crown's control like Kent and Gloucester will do with the next generation. Pretty bizarre and interesting, right? Also worthy of note is that via the Wars of the Roses the Monarch is the Duke of Lancaster. The DOY keeps getting recreated for another 2nd son but it often skips generations if the current Duke is still living (ala Queen Victoria's second son). It won't come to Harry. He's already a royal Duke: Sussex. The only person in the family who *hopefully* has a Dukedom coming to them on HM's death is Edward and that was agreed at the time he was made and Earl and not a Duke as a wedding gift. William will probably be briefly HRH The Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge before being invested as Prince of Wales but there's no way Harry is going to get a 2nd Dukedom when he's not even allowed to use HRH with the first one most of the time. Even if Andrew is ever stripped of it, they probably won't bestow it again in his lifetime - just as they used not to if widows were still living except with their blessing) so Louis may not receive it. Obviously a lot of things are up in the air re titles and roles for Louis and Charlotte in general. I'd be all for HM trying to get Charles to agree to recreate it for Bea but that's not going to happen, especially since his office seemed lukewarm on Edward getting Edinburgh last year.

Marina, the current Duke of Kent's mother, was a piece of work too. She was originally a Greek princess (what is it with Greece and British royals), and she was basically broke she married George, the Duke of Kent. After the marriage, she called her in-laws, the QM and Princess Alice of Gloucester, "those common little Scottish girls." Princess Michael isn't the only snobbish twit in that branch of the family. The "Greek" royals are about as Greek as I am- Marina is the granddaughter of George I of Greece, who was actually originally a Prince of Denmark and was picked to take over after the previous king (a Bavarian by birth) was dethroned. He was Queen Alexandra's younger brother. Both he and Marina's father married Russian grand duchesses. She probably was a snob, but then she didn't have much else, did she? Both Elizabeth and Alice came from happy, stable families, and hers was forced into exile when she was only 11. Then she was widowed with three young children during the war.

With Charles wanting to slim down the monarchy and cut back on the amount of princes/princesses kicking around, I wonder if Prince and Princess Michael of Kent will lose their titles. I should imagine Princess Michael will throw an absolute fit if that happens.

I was wondering if Andrew would besmirch the title enough that others wouldn't want it for a while. Maybe not to the level of the Duke of Windsor, which appears to have been retired indefinitely, but I doubt someone like Harry would want it even if it were a possibility. He didn't even want Archie to be the Earl of Dumbarton.

They seem like a genuinely nice couple, and I think they've done very well by the queen as well as each other. And neither of them went into the marriage expecting to have royal duties, not with his older brother as the heir. But they both stepped up amazingly when they had to.

Ideally, they wouldn't have had to; the lesser known royals should have been off the hook. I'm hoping that Edward's children will be private citizens.
