I also love that in many of the interviews she gave during the Wonder Woman promotional press tour, she always included boys in any talk about the character being an inspiration. The reason I find that worth mentioning is that many men who grew up loving Wonder Woman were bullied because other boys thought they were gay (I have never understood why there is an unspoken rule that says that boys can only like male superheroes). Using her celebrity and such a huge platform to normalize the notion of boys loving Wonder Woman as much as girls do is awesome in my opinion. Girls are never harrassed for loving, say, Spider-Man and dressing up as him on Halloween, but God forbid a boy wore a Wonder Woman costume...

Surprisingly one of the best explanations on this, that I've ever read was from a knitting book (by Deb Stoller who founded Bitch Magazine). Basically she said that she got a lot of shit when she started knitting, as a feminist. That people applauded her for taking up soccer/running "traditional guys" activities, but when she liked doing things that were traditionally female oriented--people thought she was going backwards. Her point was that instead of tearing down women who like those activities, maybe we should try to encourage more men to be comfortable with it? As a woman who is a feminist, I love that attitude! I work in STEM, run races, lift weights, and hike like a badass. But I also love to knit, and am about to go make some damn delicious cinnamon rolls.

But I also love to knit, and am about to go make some damn delicious cinnamon rolls. As someone who started knitting in the late 80s, I am so much in agreement. The sight of 20-ish me knitting on Vancouver trolleys got lots of approving looks, but a few of my feminist comrades were very sneery about it, and downright confused. I just kept handing out beautiful hats and mittens, and I am still knitting obsessed. There is a whole forum on Ravelry devoted to this very topic, called This is What A Feminist Knits Like, with threads called "Political Outrage", "What pisses you off?", and "What makes you happy?" So, well-rounded, hee.

She really looks great in metallics. Smart of her to embrace them.
Her husband is also hot.
